I need a cursed magic Item for my campaign that alters the behavior of an important friendly NPC. This what I came up with:

-----------------------------------------------------------
Gem of Domination- Level 9
-----------------------------------------------------------
These rare gems have been imbued with the evil essence of a Succubus devil. The wearer of this item will slowly fall under the spell of the Succubus over time. From that point the Succubus will use her dominance over the wearer to do evil deeds.

Item slot : Varies - Inserted in a Head or Neck slot item.
Properties : Cursed; Can only be removed with a Disenchant Magic Item Rutual.

POWERS
Dominating Dream (standard • at-will) • Charm
Ranged 5 (against the wearer only); +10 to +14 vs. Will; The target is dominated until the next night's dream.
The Succubus starts to appear in the wearer's dreams after he has worn the gem for a period of 3 consecutive days. The domination attack can take place even if the wearer has removed the gem as long as it remains within range. Every night the Succubus tries to charm him. The first night the attack is at +10 vs Will. The attack's power increases by +1 every consecutive night to a maximum of +14. If the chain of consecutive nights of broken the attack falls back to +10. When the attack succeeds the wearer is Dominated until the following night's dream. The wearer will do everything in his power to avoid removal of the cursed item. Save ends Domination until the next night's attack. The wearer is unaware that the charm comes from the gem.

Dominate (standard • at-will) • Charm
Ranged 5; +12 vs. Will; The target is dominated until the end of the wearer's next turn.

Well if it's for an NPC, you really don't need to make an item and stat everything out to have that effect happen. That sounds more like something you could easily just have happen on your own as the DM.

As a DM one should strive to make things work using the same logic found in the set of rules provided in the books. I'm not a big fan of the «wing it» theory. What happens when a winged items falls into the hands of PCs? You have to «unwing it» and make it playable....

I like. It's well designed, has a purpose though it might be better if the gen was designed to lure prey to the Succubus. Well designed and a good potential trap as well as an NPC item. I would love to see the xp on this. It's treated as a trap, right?

All the Best,

Nani?
