| #1SankarahApr 26, 2010 15:54:40 | I originally posted this in the Controller forum because I didn't scroll down far enough to find the house rules forum. Whoops. Anyway, with that said: I'm working on a ranger/druid hybrid at the moment, and am looking to customize two elements of the character. The first is Initiate of the Old Faith, which is straightforward enough -- I just want it to give access to Nature and allow the use of a Druid at-will 1/encounter (as with many other multiclass feats). This is because I emphatically do not want the character to be a shapeshifter. The character will naturally have to choose her druid powers carefully, but as long as she's willing to do that I see no problem with the feat. Te second element is trickier. Essentially, I want to rewrite Summon Primal Slayer such that it calls two Large tigers instead of a Primal Slayer. The rules text would look like this: Call the Pride Daily*Implement, Primal, Summoning Standard Action Ranged 5 Effect: You summon two Large tigers in unoccupied spaces within range. The tigers have speed 7. You can give the tigers the following special command. On the turn you summon the tigers you can give either one or both this command as part of using this power. Standard Action: Melee 1: targets one creature; Wisdom vs. Reflex; 2d8 + Wisdom modifier damage. If two tigers attack the same target make one attack for both doing 3d8 + Wisdom modifier damage. Instinctive Effect: If you haven't given a tiger any commands by the end of your turn, it charges the nearest bloodied creature it can charge, using its attack as a melee basic attack. If it can't do that, it attacks an adjacent enemy if it can. Otherwise, it moves its speed to a square adjacent to an enemy. Pros vs. Summon Primal Slayer: -- Versatility. Instead of being limited to two targets within reach of one summoned creature the cats can attack any two targets within range. -- Charge effects. The cats can charge when using their instinctive effects, and that means they can make their attacks more often than the Primal Slayer might. Cons vs. Summon Primal Slayer: -- Lower base damage. The Primal Slayer can attack two targets for 2d12 or one target for 3d10, while the cats can attack two targets for 2d8 or one target for 3d8. -- No utility vs. flying targets. -- Friendly Fire. The cats go after bloodied targets, and can even gang up on allies. That can get really messy, particularly if the power gets used twice in an encounter (as it can at epic levels). I'd like feedback on these changes, particularly the power. I'm worried that the charging effects might be a bit much, but OTOH the lack of utility against flyers and potential for friendly fire might make it useless. Also, is there a way to edit elements in Character Builder? I know I can create new ones, but I'm not wild about mucking about with that when it comes to multiclass and paragon powers. Any links to threads discussing the topic would be much appreciated. |
