| #1artemis2434_dupAug 07, 2008 1:27:49 | I have a party in the paragon tier, and i made them a little adventure that I'm going to post here for some help and maybe to help others with their ideas! They start off at the beginning of a temple pertinent to the story line, in which they need to get to the bottom. This is not a dungeon crawl, instead they reach the bottom in a much more creative way. The order of evens goes as follows: Event-Puzzle-Event-Encounter-Event. The first event happens when they enter the temple, and watch a kobold crawl into a small tunnel and pull a block in with him to seal it off. This starts the kobold temple raiders story line. They can attempt to follow him, but the tunnels are complex and too small to crawl through for most of the party. Next, the party reads a plaque that opens up a stairway for them to enter. The next puzzle is a creative twist on an elevator system. [S] Behind the scenes area | [b] Level they start on | | | [W] Weight at the bottom of the elevator Normally a person would pull a lever which would dispense a weighted barrel. Then they would take one of the weighted barrels and put it into the elevator. This would drop down a staircase they could descend down further into the temple. When the PCs do this they find the tunnel to move on further crashed in. But down on the level they are on they find the weighted barrel that they put into the elevator. If the remove the barrel the staircase disappears up into the works of the temple and so does the elevator room the barrel was on. Most likely panic will ensue. Soon they should figure out that there is a weight on the bottom of the elevator. If they push the barrel down the shaft the stairs return and so does the elevator room the barrel was in. The trick to moving on is to go upstairs and pull the lever that original dispensed the weighted barrel. It will reset the weight at the bottom of the elevator and return the puzzle to its original state. They will get a new barrel when they do this. They will put the barrel in the elevator and the stairs will drop. Then a party member stands in the stairs elevator, while another removes the barrel. This should move them up above the trap where there is two options for getting the rest of the party up. They can either break the chain on the elevator or ferry everyone up on individual trips and use a reset switch on the uppermost level to ferry the last party member, a much longer and annoying process. Finally, the party reaches the behind the scenes area. There is actually to switches in this area, one is the elevator reset, and the other releases a boulder trap meant for another room. When they throw this switch, the floor collapses and every one follows the boulder down. The boulders weight crushes through several floors on its way down, and the party avoids a lot of the damage because it takes a few seconds to break the floor through each level (there are 6 levels) and the rooms are only 7 feet high. I might have them take little bits of damage all the way down. When they reach the bottom floor they find a kobold group ready to defile the relics of the temple. I have a large party of 7, so its a hard encounter. The encounter has a few creature from the recent dragon article from issure #364, Kobolds! : 2 Kobolds on turrets (3 bolts shot each round, separate attack rolls +8, deal 1d6+1 damage a round, its a modified Magic Crossbow Turret, page 88 of the DMG) 1 Kobold Wildmage, 1 Kobold Chieftain, 1 Kobold Warpriest 3 Kobold Pikers, and 2 Kobold Spikers. They have no escape, and a slightly radical, so they fight to the death. The Wildmage generate a shield on the two turrets until hit, then it uses it wild teleport when its hit and no longer generates the shield. The Magic Crossbow Turrets have decent defensive stats, the its kobold user only have 1 hp. The same turrets can be used by PCs if cleared of their previous used. The various leader make life for the PCs hard by constantly buffing the kobolds. Feel Free to have the PCs start the encounter prone from the fall. Remove Leaders to make to encounter easier for less party members. So thats my adventure. There is a teleport pad at the bottom they can use after i do a storyline event. Questions, Comments, or Advice? I'm checking this page frequently! |
