Rule: Daily Powers recharge at the start of a session, they are not connected to an extend rest anymore. (milestones are per session as well) Context: While our sessions aren't short we do usually only have about 2 fights per evening. These fights take about 1-2 hours each. About half of a session is social encounters, skill challenges, puzzles and exploration. Important is that we do never had the 5 minute workday, but we often have 1 fight, and days of traveling afterwards. Or running through a dungeon with several fights but the dungeon was split up in several sessions as well. We do play about 1 per month, so most of the time the DM was the only person who remembered (notes) which daily were used. The assumed fix is that if we do play 2-3 fights a day, this would work out. During travelling not every encounter is trivial due to the daily powers and every session the players will have fresh power. Now my Question is: Am i missing something? |

Early in our careers, we were getting through three or four fights a session; but now, in early epic, two is much more normal. And four dailies for two fights is a little much, which meant our DM gives us tougher monsters, which meant that the fights went slower...so we instituted another rule, which was this: you can only use one daily attack and one daily utility per fight. It's worked well for us. |

Alternatively, we've had times where I explained that the party was under duress (like in enemy territory dodging patrols) and couldn't find a safe enough place for an extended rest. It added some drama to the game when one of our characters caught chaos phage and almost became a slaad-pole. |
