| #1eykenNov 27, 2008 0:08:32 | I have just recently started playing Dungeons and Dragons after a several year break. We were still using second edition when I stopped playing and third edition had just come out. I am in the process of learning all of the new rules from 3.0, 3.5 and 4. I have not gathered many of the books from 3.5 or 4 yet. The problem that I have is that I have not found a class that has really called out to me for my return to the game. I played a lot of the melee classes when I played. After reading through the Player's Hanbook, I could not find antying that I though I would really enjoy playing. I got to thinking and I though that it might be fun to play a Shaman from the Dark Age of Camelot game. However, I have no idea how to even begin converting the class in to a pen and paper class for Dungeons and Dragons. Does anyone have any insight on where I could begin? There might already be some information on it out there, but I can not find any. Any help wouls be really appriciated. I am just not sure how to convert the shaman spells from DAoC into spells in Dungeons and Dragons so that they would not be overpowered. The buff spells are not too difficult becuase some of them are very similar to the current spells in Dungeons and Dragons. I just need some help or insight on the damage and damage over time spells. Here is a link to some of the shaman information if it helps. Secondly, you probably can't have a character that does all of the things the same. Different game of course. Just try for a similar role or similar feeling abilities I would say. Rules: If we are talking 4th edition, it looks to me as if a slightly reflavored Cleric or possibly Warlord would be very close. Possibly with some multiclassing with Warlock. If we are talking 3.5 edition, there are a ridiculous amount of options available. You can go with a Druid with some levels of Cleric or Wizard perhaps, or vice versa. Tons of prestige classes can likely replicate certain aspects of the class you liked. Flavor doesn't affect anything in the rules remember, you can say your healing spell is a burst of light, or nanobots or anything. |
