dead gods

Hello folks...

Here is a thought/question...

Has anyone considered creating a campaign (published or no), where the characters work up to save/resurrect one of the dead gods of good?  This could be Amon (sp?), He who Was (need to find name first) and so forth?  If people can be raised...couldn't gods?  And it'd be a nice change when the good pc's are actually proactive (and being ahead of the race, making any of the enemies (like the followers of Demogorgon or Asmodeus) chasing them.  Of course, the resurrected god(s) when they do come back would be weak and need protection (cue the massive assault from big bad enemy #1)

Strangely enough, I've been thinking about this recently, and we've seen a few where the big bad god is stopped and killed (from Tiamat in the Dungeon year long campaign to Orcus (not fully killed but close enough in that published Prince of Undead)).  Seems like it could be an interesting idea that could span all three tiers.  It could start with a Deva suddenly being reincarnated and remembering something.

Anyway, I'd like to hear people's thoughts (whether feasible, not feasible, ideas to build the campaign around to build to that epic conclusion), etc...Hell if WOTC would publish something on it, I'd probably be the first in line to purchase, and it would be fun to see how this shakes up the cosmology of their 'universe'.

It certainly is epic, but why?

"...but why?"  do you mean in terms of creating the campaign where the forces of good are proactive, attempting to take away power from evil and help build up good forces?

Or me asking if others had thought of it?  If the later, well, I was just curious to see what people's thoughts were given such a situation, and if they have run such a campaign.

geez...anyone who takes on 3 demon lords, kills one, nearly cuts a second in half, and still gives the fight against orcus is one tough hombre.  Perhaps as I said earlier, a deva is reincarnated with a piece of knowledge.   Perhaps the Raven Queen, having just been beaten on by Orcus, seeing that he has taken a proverbial energy hit by another group of pc's, starts her own counterstrike.  Sure, she'd allow one of the dead to come back...but it would surely help cut down on one creature that constantly has been after her power.

In the Tomb of Horrors, the dead spirit/power of several gods were being utilized (or attempted so) by the big Bad.  There was an article several months ago about invokers that had absorbed the power of the dead gods.

There are creatures attempting to reassemble their lost god/world (I forgot what creatures were these but they were in a recent dungeon article).

In short, I'm guessing that it'd be nice that the bad guys/evil aren't the only ones attempted to be raised/reincarnated/pushed up in power.

And by checking around, maybe I could get some ideas for developing such a campaign (if others had run it before).

Sorry if this is a rambling/confusing reply, but I didnt' have my coffee yet.

One game I'm currently running has the PCs climbing a giant world tree (the top of the tree being a gate to the divine realms) in an attempt to see why the world's Gods no longer seem to be participating in their world.  The reason is going to be because of trouble from the elemental chaos.

The idea came from the fact that none of my players chose a divine class.  I seized on that idea and based my campaign on it.

As a result I've made it so no divine powers currently work and any ritual with religion as the key skill is now twice as expensive.

the campaign I'm writing currently is about the resurrection of a dead god in the Dark Sun setting.  The "why" is going to translate into (eventual) buffs for characters and bonus feats (essentially, Channel Divinity feats) that will be granted to the characters at pivotal moments/various tiers.  My plan is to reward the character with things they'll appreciate using (giving variety to combat/skill challenges) while not making them overpowered by over-giving powers.

An aspect I'm using is that when I first introduce the deity I'm going to make a dice roll, randomly choosing which deity is requesting a resurrection.  Depending on the dice, the neutral/good characters may very well resurrect a chaotic evil god, thus making things worse off for the world.  Another concept I'm toying with is that a dead god may still be immortal, but the long silence may have driven him/her mad and/or the lack of worship/power has left the god with little memory of who he/she is.  Thus the god develops along with the characters.
