| #1unundindurAug 01, 2008 6:09:54 | Deck of many things ”This deck of cards somehow tickle your curiosity, there is something unnatural about them.” Power (At-Will): Minor Action. You draw a random card from the deck, and consult the table below to see the result:
Sun: A random Wondrous item appears, and the character is blessed with 50.000 experience points. Moon: The character can immediately make a wish, which will be fulfilled as long as the result is within the capabilities of what a level 30 character could acheive. If it is beyond the scope of a level 30 character, the wish tries to twart the character in some way. The character do not know of this limitation. Star: The character permanently gain a +2 bonus to an ability of his choice. Comet: Nothing seems to happen upon drawing this card. If the character defeats the next monster encountered, he will gain a level. Throne: The character permanently gains a +4 bonus to charisma, and a small castle. The character do not know where the castle is located. Key: A magical weapon and a treasure map appears at the characters feet. The weapon is of a type appropriate for the character, and with an item level five higher than the characters level. Knight: A warrior appears, and will serve the character until death. The warrior is a Human Berserker (page 163 of the 1st Monster Manual). Gem: The character gain jewlery and gems for a value of 10.000 gp. The exact nature of the valuables can be chosen by the character. Void: The characters soul is drawn to another plane, sending the character into a permanent coma. Flames: The character gain a powerful enemy from an outer plane, who will not rest until the character have been destroyed. Skull: ”Death” appears to battle the character. If anyone except the character intervene, another ”Death” appears to fight the new adversary. ”Death” is an Angel of Vengeance (page 17 of the 1st Monster Manual) who is immune to the stunned and unconcious conditions. Talons: All of the characters magical items disappear, including this deck. Nothing can bring them back. Ruin: The character and all his belongings, including land, items, buildings and money instantly vanish forever. Euryale: The character takes a permanent -3 penalty to all defences and saving throws against petrification. Rogue: Nothing appears to happen when the card is drawn. Secretly, one of the character’s henchmen, or friends turn against him, and will wait for an opportunity to betray him. Balance: The characters alignment chances into a different one. Jester: The character gain 10.000 experience points, or you can draw two cards. Fool: The character lose 10.000 experience points and must draw another card. Vizier: The character may ask a question which will be answered correctly. There is a 25% chance the answer is in Supernal, but otherwise it is given in Common. Idiot: The character permanently lose 1d4 points of intelligence, and you must draw another card. Fates: The character may avoid a single situation of his choice once. The character can chose what to avoid immediately after it happens. Donjon: The character and his equipment vanish, and is imprisoned somewhere.
NOTE: Since there are 22 cards in a deck, it is recommended to use tarrot or playing cards to simulate the various cards. The Deck of Many Things is part of my installment of classical items. Other items include the Rod of Wonder. EDIT: *Changed Knight from player stats to monster stats. *Added some more information on Moon. *Added immunities to the summon of Skull. *Added "immediately" clause to Fates. *Increased the reward from Key |
| #2tankschmidtAug 01, 2008 7:58:08 | I love it - it's nice to see some of the whimsy come back. I'll be adding this to my list of magic items. Thanks for posting! |
| #3unundindurAug 05, 2008 1:29:58 | I have done some editing, so you should grab the newest version, since some of the changes are important ![]() |
| #4tankschmidtAug 05, 2008 7:32:10 | Thanks for the update. I think I'll grab that Rod of Wonder as well - didn't notice that the first time. Do you have plans to recreate more of these bad boys? Keep up the good work! |
| #5unundindurAug 05, 2008 9:24:36 | Any in particular you would like to see? I made these because they are easy to put in any campaign I considdered things like the Sword of Kas etc, but they don't have hte smae universal use...If you have ideas, I will definantly considder it. |
| #6tankschmidtAug 05, 2008 12:23:33 | Well if you're looking for ideas - the wackier the better. I'd love to see items like a Sphere of Annihilation, a Cube of Force, some Figurines of Wondrous Power, a Girdle of Masculinity/Femininity (always a favorite), or the Apparatus of Kwalish! |
| #7unundindurAug 09, 2008 1:44:59 | Hmm... the Girdle is interresting, as is the Apparatus I will see too it in time (after I finish my comprehensive list of magical equipment up to level 6 for 3.5... THAT takes time :P) |
