For no particular reason, I thought about delayed blast fireball today and decided to work up a version in 4E.  Thoughts?

Delayed Blast Fireball Wizard Attack 25
You hurl a glowing orange bead into the fray, holding it together with your will so you can unleash its power at just the right time.
Daily * Arcane, Conjuration, Fire, Implement
Standard Action Ranged 20
Effect: You conjure a bead of fire in an unoccupied square.  The bead lasts until the end of your next turn.  At the end of that turn, the bead is destroyed and you make the following attack centered on the bead's square.
Close burst 3
Target: Ech creature in burst
Attack: Intelligence vs. Reflex
Hit: 5d8 + Intelligence modifier fire damage.
Miss: Half damage.
Sustain Minor: The bead lasts until the end of your next turn.  At the end of any round in which you do not sustain the power, the bead is destroyed and you make the attack above centered on the bead's square.

Looks good. I like that you can sustain it indefinitely, it leaves a bit of uncertainty for the enemies. You might want to increase the burst to a 5 to compensate for the lack of status effects compared to other level 25 wizard powers. Either that or lower the level to 19. It would be a bit strong on the damage side at that level, but Acid Wave has the potential to do more, and this doesn't create a zone or inflict status effects like many other powers of that level. Plus enemies can choose to avoid the burst area, negating all damage.

Having unusually high damage for 19 would not be inappropriate. This spell has the disadvantage that it's often (perhaps not always) fairly easy to just get out of the radius and never go back to it.

It's a little different from the original spell back in the day, but I wonder if it would make any sense to offer another sustaining possibility -- sustain move; you may move the bead up to 6 squares. You may move it through occupied squares but you may not end its movement in an occupied square.

Figured I'd take a crack at initiating the majority of the changes mentioned in those two replies.

Sustain Standard to move the bead seems excessive to me--how about Sustain Move?

Other than that, great power.  It's a wonderful piece of battlefield control, since you can drop the bead in a cluster of enemies and send them scattering, then use it to chase them down or keep them out of an area.
