I haven't seen anything yet in 4th edition, though, similar to the Divine Ranks of 3rd edition. Not sure if that's the best way to handle it either way, though. I'd really like to get your ideas, feedback. How would you handle a campaign where the heroes were the children of the gods as in Percy Jackson? (Otherwise a relatively standard fantasy setting, not modern day). I would prefer the Norse gods, though that doesn't have as big of a bearing on just the mechanics of character creation. I took the divine array and dropped that into the DDI Character Builder for a 1st level character and noticed instantly that all the defenses, skills, etc. were a really close match to a standard 11th level Paragon character. I wondered if a way to do this would be to let everyone start as standard 11th level characters, but age 12. If you wanted to run a campaign of PC godlings, how would you do it? |

This lets them access the divine power without needing to be divine characters. God Fragments might also be a paragon option if you're not opposed to making some accessible by non Invoker classes. Past the mechanical options, flavor is a must. Really you're not dong anything different than normal. Characters of a quasi-deific nature are not immortal, unstoppable people who can be thrown against Orcus at level 1 and come out unscathed. They're still going to need to grow into their powers and harness their divinity with age and experience, as well as deal with the fact that they will always be mortal despite their powers until they achieve full godhood. Giving them free reign of their holy nature breaks the game in a way that shouldn't occur until late paragon/early epic. Its no fun without a challenge after all. Make a game and find ways to let your characters have a taste of the divine without forcing them to play nothing but clerics and paladins and the like. No reason Hercules can't be a grappler fighter after all ![]() |
