| #1Dragon9Nov 11, 2008 7:51:31 | I knwo this was a lot of people's favorite Prestige Class from 3.X, so it may be hard to doit justice in some people's view. However, I took a stab at it. let me know what you think: Dervish Prerequisite: Ranger with the Two Weapon Fighting Style or Fighter with the Tempest Fighter option. A Dancer’s Grace (11th): When you shift, you ignore any difficult terrain. Dervish Action (11th): When you spend an action point, instead of taking an extra action you may choose to recharge Dervish Dance. Dervish Speed (16th): Your movement rate increases by 1. Dervish Dance Dervish Attack 11 As you begin your attack, you use the movement of your blades to begin a deadly dance between your enemies who stand captivated by your precision. Encounter * Martial, Weapon Standard action Melee weapon Requirement: You must be wielding two melee weapons that are light blades, heavy blades, or axes. Target: One creature Attack: Strength vs. AC (main and off-hand weapons), two attacks Hit: 1[W] + Strength modifier damage. Effect: You may shift up to your movement rate. During this shift, you may make an secondary attack against any enemy you move adjacent to. You must shift at least 1 square before attacking again and you may only make one attack against any given enemy. Secondary Attack: Strength vs. AC Hit: 1[W] damage. Defensive Spin Dervish Utility 12 As your enemy’s attack comes in, you move with his momentum giving you time to move out of the way. Encounter * Martial Immediate Interrupt Personal Trigger: You are hit with an attack. Effect: You gain a +4 power bonus to AC and Reflex until the end of your next turn. A Thousand Cuts Dervish Attack 20 You leap into a flurry of attacks, beating back your opponents under a rain of steel. Daily * Martial, Weapon Standard action Close burst 1 Requirement: You must be wielding two melee weapons that are light blades, heavy blades, or axes. Special: Before you attack, shift up to a number of squares equal to your Dexterity modifier. Target: Each enemy in burst you can see. Attack: Strength vs. AC (main weapon and off-hand weapon), two attacks per target. Hit: 1[W] + Strength modifier damage. If both attacks hit, you deal additional damage equal to your Dexterity modifier. Miss: Half damage. |

I'm not quite sure what to make of Dervish Dance... it looks ridiculously powerful, sort of... but it's probably better to look at the shadar-kai chain fighter in the MM to get a better grasp, I think of how to... well it's kinda crazy. Defensive Spin looks like it should be a Daily, with a massive +6... Then the last one... I think if both attacks hit, it should deal extra damage according to your dex modifier, versus that 1d10 + Str mod again... |
| #3Dragon9Nov 11, 2008 21:56:56 | Thanks for the reply. I made the Dervish Action at 16 because I felt getting Dervish Dance and being able to recharge it all at level 11 was to strong. I forgot somehting in the Dervish dance... forgot to add that an enemy can only be attacked once... fixed. Defensive Spin is patterned after the Shield Spell, which only give +4, but it's a 2nd level utility. (and Encounter) By contrast the Mirror Image spell gives a +6 (and is a daily). I want it to be useful at level 12, and a one shot in an encounter to avoid an attack doesn't seem overpowered to me. If I reduce it to +4, it's a 2nd level power attained at 12th level. As a Daily it is, in some ways, not as good as Mirror Image since it only lasts until the end of your next turn. I could see maybe reducing the duration even more. Making it so it only lasts until the beginning of your next turn (thus not usable with any OAs you might incur). otherwise an improved shield (by 2) as an encounter power 10 levels higher doesn't seem overbalanced to me. What are other people's thoughts? Re: A Thousand Cuts. I thought about that... but seemed too underpowered. By doign the 1d10 + Str I was tryign to make it so 2 hits would essentially be treated like a 3[W] attack. I suppose I coud just word it as deal an extra 1[W] but I wanted to give the chance of a little better damage (or drop the Str mod). It's patterned after the Stormwardens Cold Steel Hurricane power. Although you 're getting extra damage instead of recharging your second wind. Any extra thoughts on it? |
| #4ceiling90Nov 11, 2008 22:40:06 | Recharge by spending an action is kinda... well expensive, especially without leaders I think, so I think it's fine. Thing about that is that, close burst 1 with two attacks per square is just asking for crits. Defensive Spin just sounds like a Daily, but if the duration is restricted, like this, I think it fits fine as a encounter... but it's just a massive bonus... |
| #5Dragon9Nov 12, 2008 0:23:19 | Well, do you think Thousand Cuts is more overpowered than this: Cold Steel Hurricane Stormwarden Attack 20 Daily ✦ Martial, Weapon Standard Action Close burst 1 Requirement: You must be wielding two melee weapons. Special: Before you attack, shift a number of squares equal to your Wisdom modifier. Target: Each enemy in burst you can see Attack: Strength vs. AC (main weapon and off-hand weapon), two attacks per target Hit: 1[W] + Strength modifier damage per attack. Effect: You regain your second wind if you have already used it during this encounter. After looking through some other classes, I'm going to drop it to +4. The cleric has a level 10 encounter utility that is only +4. Just seems a bit off to me since Shield does that and is level two. a level 12 power should have some more oomph to it. Then again the cleric power can be used on any ally within 5 squares, so it has that going for it. ![]() |

It was class designed for slashing weapons which could easily be transalated as... Prerequisite: Martial power source, Trained in Acrobatics And that their powers require you to be wielding a heavy blade, light blade or an axe. (thats what I did for my players when I made the dervish class.) |
| #7rikijiNov 12, 2008 20:05:44 | It seems overly focused to me. The class features do nothing outside of the powers granted by the path, which means most of the time you won't be doing anything that accents your specialty. The action point ability is probably fine, but Dancer's grace should be broadened to affect all shifting. |
| #8Dragon9Nov 13, 2008 10:23:02 | Thank you for the feedback guys. ![]() The dervish did not have two-weapon fighting as a prerequisite in 3rd edition, why would you do so now? It was class designed for slashing weapons which could easily be transalated as... I guess it's more of a flavor thing for me. That, and I never saw a Dervish PC that wasn't two-weapon speced. So why go against trend? :P The Dervish was strongest as a TWF user. Also, good point about the slashign weapons... that slipped mind to work that in there. Fixed. It seems overly focused to me. Shift your speed and make three attacks any time derring the move, you most move at least one space between attacks. Hit: 1[W]+Strength modifier damage. As for the level 20 power, take a look at Weaponsoul Dance on page 87 of the PH. |
