| #1crazysamaritanJun 01, 2009 2:13:32 | It's late, so this is probably a stupid idea. A "Detect Awesome" ability would be great for incorporating into the game world. What it does is Tell characters exactly what bonuses a creature/object has. Detect Awesome on a 1st level kobold reveals the normal statistics on it. Detect Awesome on a 1st level kobold with a +3 sword reveals that the Kobold has an Awesome sword (it has a +3). Detect Awesome on a 15th level kobold with a +3 sword reveals the normal statistics on the kobold (because the magic item threshold matches the sword). A Detect Awesome reveals a 10th level PC has a +5 bonus to his rolls, and a bunch of plusses from random stuff. A Detect Awesome reveals a 10th level NPC has a +10 bonus to his rolls, but no plusses from any random stuff. It's 3am where I live... so yeah... |
| #2DralenanJun 01, 2009 3:14:11 | What would detect lame do? "This monster has a +19 to attack, dude. Just back away, man..." |
| #3cyberianhuskyJun 01, 2009 3:23:36 | A sufficiently high monster knowledge check pretty much tells the players all they need to know about a monster they are fighting, as far as it will influence their choices within the battle. Not that monsters generally use magic items any more, but even if a kobold WERE using a +3 weapon, its not particularly relevant information until said kobold is dead, |
| #4panoslJun 01, 2009 6:00:15 | Indeed. Monster knowledge does that already. If they really want to find out the properties of the sword that is caving their heads in Arcana works fine. |
| #5zeratulcraftJun 01, 2009 6:20:54 | I for one welcome our new Awesome overlords. What about Detect Badassery? Like, just so we really know when we're watching 24. |
| #6crazysamaritanJun 01, 2009 16:35:00 | Indeed. Monster knowledge does that already. If they really want to find out the properties of the sword that is caving their heads in Arcana works fine. Monster knowledge does not tell you "this goblin is level 10" vs "this goblin is level 1". There's no dice to see if an NPC is a minion or not. |
| #7ForgemberJun 01, 2009 16:43:45 | Monster knowledge does not tell you "this goblin is level 10" vs "this goblin is level 1". I often use an At-Will or Basic Attack as Detect Minion, :D |
| #8farmer42_dupJun 01, 2009 16:58:25 | I actually had a d6 Star Wars character with levels in "Genre Savvy." It was an Old Republic game and he was a Miraluka Jedi. He was also a smart [censored]. Man, his master regularly read him the riot act, and he spent a whole lot of time mediating, which he tranfered into combat Force powers based on concentration. The best part was that the other padawan's player wasn't as well versed in the EU, so he kept forgetting that my character was blind and didn't even have eyes. It culminated one in his character lecturing mine about the need to be careful of acting on what one sees, as one's eyes often mislead us. My character's response? "The Force is strong in this one, indeed..." |
| #9bigdaddykaneJun 01, 2009 17:17:50 | More importantly, is Detect Awesome a Minor, Free, or Standard action? Do any special bonuses kick in if you use an action point when you Detect Awesome? I think this idea has legs. |
| #10arderkragJun 01, 2009 17:44:24 | This ability would be useless in our games, as it would keep detecting me. |
| #11bigdaddykaneJun 01, 2009 17:48:26 | heheheheheh |
