| #1herald108Mar 19, 2009 1:40:22 | I just got my copy of PH2. It looks good. But to incorporate this material into my campaign world, I'll need to make a few minor changes. The Avenger and Invoker classes simply get renamed for flavor, but the Deva race requires a little more work. Some of us have pondered the entrance of this new race. I find the idea of the Deva interesting, but it doesn't fit my campaign world-view. So, instead of having Devas, I'm going to change this race to a fey template. The thing I like the most about 4e is the Feywild. With all the D&D I've played, I've seen pretty much everything. But the Feywild has re-inspired me. So the fey adventures I've created have become quite interesting. When people think of the fey, giggling pixies and eladrin soap operas immediately come to mind. And while these have their place, I've latched onto the savage beauty of this magic realm. I'm after the essence of the Wild Hunt. The Feywild I've envisioned is a very dangerous place and I'm really enjoying this creation. So, if someone wants to play a fey creature in my campaign, the Deva -- with a few changes -- should do the trick. This will work for just about anything fey or side: a pixie, a fairy, a silverly floating mote, a leprechaun, a mischievous capper, an ugly (adult) changeling, Rumplestiltskin, a tree spirit, a deep-forest shadow, or even a shambling mossy tree-person. Basically anything the player can imagine is open for consideration. Those who want to play an eladrin, gnome or goblin can also use this template as an alternative option. Satyrs can use this option, but they can also choose between their own racial traits (homebrewed) and the tiefling format (tieflings are dark satyrs). Fey Changes to the Deva Height, weight, size and speed are based on the character's description. Vision: Low-light Skill Bonuses: +2 History, +2 Nature (replaces Religion) Fey Nemesis (was Astral Majesty): You have a +1 bonus to all defenses against attacks made by creatures of a selected origin (selected at 1st level; cannot change). Fey Resistance (was Astral Resistance): You have resistance to necrotic damage and one other damage keyword (selected at 1st level; cannot change). Your fey resistance is equal to 5+ one-half your level. Fey Origin: You are native to the Feywild, so you are considered a fey creature for the purpose of effects that relate to creature origin. Memory of a Thousand Lifetimes is renamed Bounty of the Seasons. Eladrin, gnomes, goblins and satyrs can choose between their own racial power or the bounty. The other, non-standard, fey gain the bounty as well as feyleave. Feyleave At the end of an extended rest, you spend an action point to change from your natural form to your worldly form as an elf, human or gnome. Your worldly form, chosen when you create your character, is unique to you, cannot change, and you cannot appear as any other unique individual. You can remain in your worldly form for as long as you like. While in your worldly form, you can use your skills, feats and basic attacks as normal, but you cannot use your class, paragon or epic powers. Reverting back to your natural form is a minor action. If a side fey is seen, let alone caught, there will be trouble -- as in, tied-up in a sack or trapped in a jar. So feyleave helps get around this RP problem. Other changes Ancestral Incarnate paragon path renamed Fey Incarnate. Change "Past-Life" to "Fey" Past-Life Acolytes -> Fey Spirits Past-Life Guardian -> Fey Guardian Past-Life Servant -> Fey Ally Past-Life Vanguard -> Fey Vanguard Heroic Level Feats Auspicious Lineage renamed Feyluck. Radiant Power Change the radiant keyword to the keyword selected for Fey Resistance. Paragon Level Feats Ascendant Lineage renamed Feyboon Astral Renewal renamed Fey Renewal Epic Level Feats Transendent Lineage renamed Favor of the Fey I don't expect this option will see a lot of use, but when a PC joins the party in the feywild, this should help with backstory and continuity. Feel free to critique. |
