... The second has neither the implement nor weapon keyword. Which means after about ;level 10 it's almost never going to hit. Hive it a to-hit bonus after 11th level and give it a secind bonus after 21st level.

Also: The 3d12 is at 21st right? You also need to fix the name and fluff.

Edit: Looks likle I was imagining things...

The flavor text for Dark Metamorphosis should be:

Back, Up-back, Up, Up-Forward, Forward, Attack.

Yah... It is absolutely overpowered.

I understand the need to have a race that fits your ideas, however that needs to be toned down. (Power stuff I tend to gloss ovber a lot)

why must players RP vampires? they have too many abilities to be playable, in both strengths and weaknesses. a half human vampire still has all these abilities.

Did you know?

that all vampire myths have nothing in common with each other?

not even the vampires.

all vampire myths are inconsistent and so many pieces you can work off and still everyone argues. the same can be said about angels, demons and devils. so many myths. none matching.

the posting of vampires has caused many fights in the past, as did those "Katana" threads.

Dark Metamorphasis is based on the Razorclaw Shifter power, so if its overpowered, then the shifter power is overpowered as well.

Blood Drinking might be too good too, but its hard to tell.

As for why have a Dhampir?

Its obviously not for me to play since 99.99999% of the time I DM. There is a previous edition PC that'd I'd simply like to update, in case we use the character in 4e.

oh!

i guess it would be the options of both, blood drinking is overpowered, definitely, PC's should not be dealing Con damage and recovering from said ability. and this is a common vampire thing.

make it 1 d12 + con modifer damage, add the amount as temporary hit points

not d12 + con score con damage with the amount added to a healing surge.

i don't pay too much attention to powers. sorry.

dark metamorphisis would be overpowered too

shifters did not gain regeneration

they gained +2 speed

and they had to be bloodied

Have to be bloodied for Dark Metamorphasis (have to be bloodied to do either of them).

As for Blood Drinking adding to temporary HP, that could work, didn't think of that.

Regen of 2 is added in instead of speed +2, and its hard to argue which is better (since the regen only works for as long as you're bloodied).

speed is nowhere near as good as regeneration. a certain epic destiny could abuse this. what is it called? Demigod?

Both encounter powers are WAY more powerful than they should be.
Regen a player should not get and 1d12+Con is WAY too much damage for a racial (not for a CLASS encounter power, but for a RACIAL encounter power) encounter power in heroic tier, especially if you get to heal when you do it.
Also, why are they gaining temporary hitpoints back instead of simply spending a healing surge as per the normal rules?

This is a perfect example of why geeky ultrafans of certain concepts shouldn't be allowed to design it. But at least you've recognized that it is a cheesily overused concept race to begin with.

Longtooth Shifting. Nuff Said.
Razorclaw Shifting. Both of which are present in the monster manual. I don't see an issue with his encounter powers aside from making it temporary hp. I think the value of hp is way too high at higher levels though. (ie don't make it a surge value but then again. Warrior's Surge does.) That's my only issue with it. What he did was take one effect from each shifter's power more or less. (and each one does have two effects)

I think he's trying to convey the idea of "artificial longevity" here, for the temporary hp.

The damage should be 2d12 at epic to me. But otherwise I think it's allright. It's an attack that deals damage equal to a weapon. Oh yes. so overpowered. mhmm yes.. not like Orcs have a power called Warrior's Surge or anything. Not at all. Nope.

His regeneration doesn't stack with Boundless Endurance, nor any other regeneration. They cover Regeneration in the player's handbook. it -never- stacks.

Hebitsuikaza I think you should actually read the monster manual's races before you judge anyone else's creations. But then, again I don't think that would matter too much since all you can see is "Dhamphir lolz fanboi moron alert lolz stupidzzz learn 2 playz" that's pretty much how that reads to me courtesy of your last comment. Any legitimacy in your evaluation is very hard to take seriously or even with just a grain of salt.

he gestalted what he wanted from the two shifts

the temporary hp would be good, when hes bloodied he is still bloodied. regeneration, and a bonus 2 two commonly targeted defenses. hard to hit and able to regenerate. thats a whole one more die step needed, this is stuff that anybody would want, i would specialize a little more.

Nothing wrong with that given the secondary perks of each he left out are equal to the perks he took from the shifters. bonus +1 to two common defenses. Given that the human starts with a bonus to -three- defenses I don't see an issue here though. It makes it on par with a human while the power is active defenses wise.

but humans don't gain skill bonuses, and they only gain 1 stat bonus, to balance thier "three" defenses bonus. humans with proper class/ ability choice can have +1 to 3 defenses and +2 to one. if these guys get +1 to 2 defenses while bloodied, +2 others anytime (4 defenses) humans should get a 2nd +2 floating racial bonus. and these guys qualify for the best racial feats, (human ones) 1 gives +3 to attack rolls, 1 gives +1 to all saves. but so do halfelves. (the queens of witchcraft) and this may be overpowered, especially with 2 +2 stat boni.

Humans gain a free skill which balances out against having two +2s to skills. And the reason why they actually have a single +2 that they can choose from to -any- stat is because that single +2 due to it being where -ever- you need it makes it more versatile and it's just as powerful as two -set- plus twos. The defenses bit are the odd ball on the human, which the dhampire in this case is only situationally specific -after- a power is used better than a human. The Human is better nine times out of ten in the defenses department as he -always- has two more +1s to his defenses than the Dhampir. It also only has a +1 reflex defense at any point in time statically speaking and a +1 to initiative which the last part is borderlined worthless as it's initiative bonus is as low as it is.

Comparion of Dark Metamorphosis to the Shifter Powers:

Longtooth Shifting Shifter Racial Power
You unleash the primal beast within and take on a more savage
countenance.

Encounter ✦ Healing
Minor Action Personal
Special: You must be bloodied to use this power.
Effect: Until the end of the encounter or until rendered
unconscious, you gain a +2 bonus to damage rolls. In addition,
for as long as you are bloodied, you gain regeneration
2 (regeneration 4 at 11th level, regeneration 6 at 21st
level).

Razorclaw Shifting Shifter Racial Power
You unleash the primal beast within and take on a more savage
countenance.

Encounter
Minor Action Personal
Special: You must be bloodied to use this power.
Effect: Until the end of the encounter or until rendered
unconscious, your speed increases by 2 and you gain a +1
bonus to AC and Reflex defense.

Disregarding the fact that the MM races aren't balanced perfectly against the PhB races, this guy's power is fine.

As for Blood Drinking against Warrior's Surge:

Warrior’s Surge Orc Racial Power
Spilling the blood of your enemy invigorates you.
Encounter ✦ Healing, Weapon
Standard Action Melee weapon
Attack: Strength vs. AC
Hit: 1[W] + Strength modifier damage, and you can spend a
healing surge.
Increase to 2[W] + Strength modifier damage at 21st level.

at first glance it seems balanced, however you're forgetting something very important. Warrior's Surge requires a weapon. In fact it's dependent upon your weapon. At maximum I'd give blood drinking a 1d10 and 2d10 at epic. It's a power that is independent of weaponry and does as much damage as a 2H weapon. That's too much. Even taking into account that you only get teporary HP from it. At least that's my position.

But we all know. Orcs wouldn't use anything but a great axe :P and it is a per encounter power. Also, check out the Dragonborn's damage after he picks up Empowered Dragon Breath. But I agree it doesn't need a damage boost at Paragon.

wyld_mutation

Aug 21, 2008 18:17:33
Empowered Dragon Breath
[Dragonborn]
Prerequisites: Dragonborn, dragon breath racial
power
Benefit: Use d10s for the damage roll of your
dragon breath power instead of d6s.

Well... That just shows that it should probably start at d8 or d10 and be upgradeable via feat to d12.

And a greataxe is still a 2H weapon. The best you'll get at 1H is d10. And as a "weaponless" melee power it should be balanced against that I believe.
#22

Cpt_Micha

Aug 21, 2008 18:19:44
well at Paragon the D.B does 3d10 thanks to that feat. That's more than any weapon's doing and at epic it does 4d10 which is more than what this power gives at epic, and it's an area of effect is all I was trying to point out there. Now I agree some of that is counter balanced by the "healing" offered, (which is why I think it's fine at a d12 and 2d12 at epic)

wyld_mutation

Aug 21, 2008 18:22:50
I suppose that's true... Why doesn't it give flat healing anyway?
#24

Cpt_Micha

Aug 21, 2008 18:28:30
I think it's a conceptual idea that he had on it. It's more "borrowed life" than actual healing, and this way it is guaranteed to end at the end of the encounter. Given what warrior surge can do I might make it true healing instead though. Also given the D.B's dubious "balanced" encounter power making it a true heal might not be a bad idea.
#25

lolwatzors

Aug 22, 2008 0:43:55
Two reasons that Blood Drinking gives temporary hp instead of flat healing, it doesn't spend a healing surge like warrior's surge does, and its a minor action not a standard action.

As for people claiming regeneration of 2/4/6 being super-omfg-uber-good, just look at hydra armor in the PHB.

Speed is more useful to more characters than regen is, regens of 5/10/15 are more useful in the respective tiers, where as ANY BONUS to speed is equally good at all tiers.
