| #1thewaeverApr 13, 2010 21:52:36 | I'm putting together a new class. One of the daily powers (first level) I'm thinking about has the character riding a wave of stones & earth which pins the target beneath an avalanche. Here's how I wrote up the effect: Hit: You shift 1 square into the target’s square. Remove the target from play, and the target takes 5 ongoing damage (save ends both). No creature has line of effect to the target. The target cannot take actions except to roll saving throws. When the target makes its save, it appears in a non-occupied square adjacent to the player. I basically have two questions. 1. Does that make sense as it is written? 2. Is it redundant to include text like, "No creature has line of effect to the target. The target cannot take actions except to roll saving throws"? If it is not redundant, should I include text in there to make it clear that the target is subject to the ongoing damage? Thanks in advance! |

Also, "removed from play" includes not having line of effect I guess, you can't target what isn't there. IIRC 'Iron Tomb' is a lvl 9 daily power for the battlemind: it creates an itron tomb around an enemy mechanically it has: Hit: stun & immune to damage (save ends both) |
| #4pluisjenApr 14, 2010 4:19:00 | That's 8 levels higher... also this includes ongoing damage. And it can't be targeted by its allies, so they can't help it break free with Heal checks. Or patch it up with other buff effects. |
| #5thewaeverApr 14, 2010 10:08:46 | I've seen "remove from play" powers & effects before. I just can't remember where. Thanks for the input. I'll read up on that iron tomb power. |
| #6pluisjenApr 14, 2010 10:09:37 | I know Warlock has some, but those are mostly Epic tier powers ![]() |
| #7ekioApr 14, 2010 10:57:21 | Damned if I remember what it is, but the remove from the battlefield effect is from a warlock power that sends your enemy to hell. Also, the voidsoul genasi has a racial ability that allows it to leave the battlefield, but that's when you merge yourself into the void of the Astral Sea. Tossing a mountain on someone isn't quite the same thing. :P If I were going to write up the power, I'd say... Hit: You shift 1 square into the target’s square. The target is stunned and the target takes 5 ongoing damage (save ends both). No creature has line of effect to the target. The target cannot take actions except to roll saving throws. When the target makes its save, it may slide to an adjacent unoccupied square as a free action. |
| #8thewaeverApr 14, 2010 11:33:13 | Cool, here's what I decided on: Hit: You shift 1 square into the target’s square. The target is stunned and the target takes 5 ongoing damage (save ends both). When the target makes its save, it slides to an adjacent unoccupied square as a free action. The stun condition does create the kind of effect I wanted. Thanks for the input, guys! |
| #9thewaeverApr 14, 2010 11:59:44 | I'm glad that the whole "dropping a mountain on someone's head" thing came across. I'm putting together a set of classes using each of the elements as a power source. This power is for the earth defender class. I've been reading these forums on why people don't like battelminds & wardens & stuff, & i'm trying to create fun powers that are still useful. I still have a ways to go until I finish this class, but it's fun ![]() |
| #10ekioApr 14, 2010 15:56:59 | Yeah, me too. Its been a blast and out of the four class me and my project team have been developing, the earthbender defender class has been my favorite. www.scribd.com/doc/16920521/Avatar-the-L... |
| #11thewaeverApr 14, 2010 16:14:14 | Oh, very nice! If I can offer a little bit of input, the airbender utilities wall running and freedom of wind on page 10, shouldn't those be immediate reactions? I really like the whole immediate reaction thing. I'm trying to include a could of things like that in my project, too. |
| #12thewaeverApr 14, 2010 16:17:05 | I like the art, too, btw. Most of that is fan art, right? |
| #13ekioApr 14, 2010 17:43:57 | Oh, very nice! Yeah, they probably should. I'll fix that in the next run through of InDesignin'. If you decide to read through it for whatever reason, feel free to make a comment in the thread we have here in the House Rules forum. Its called Avatar: The Last Airbender Elemental Heroes, or something. |
