| #1the_knight_argentJul 01, 2008 16:32:04 | I devised this path for my character after realizing they had no wings. I then found the Dragonborn Champion in the MM, and decided to model the path after that. My inspiration is that the Dragonborn did have wings and a tail at one time, but they were taken from them as repercussion for some great dishonor (the loss of their empire, perhaps?) The Champion has committed to re-earning his gift from Io, and with it, his honor. What do you think? I'm concerned that the resistances and the at-will prone attack are overpowered. DRAGONBORN CHAMPION RACIAL PARAGON PATH 11th Level No Remorse: You gain 2[W] damage against prone targets. Io's Gift Restored: You grow wings and a tail. Initially, your wings are too weak to keep you aloft, but you can glide. You can fly up to your speed per round (clumsy), but at least half of that amount (rounded up) must be used to fly down or you will immediately crash. You no longer take falling damage, unless you crash. At 21st level, your wings grow strong enough to carry your weight, and you gain a fly speed equal to your speed. Tail Strike Dragonborn Champion Attack 11 At-Will Minor Action Close burst 1 Target: One creature Attack: Strength vs. Fortitude Hit: Target is knocked prone. 12th Level Shake It Off Dragonborn Champion Utility 12 Daily Free Action Personal Effect: You automatically succeed on a saving throw against one effect that a save can end. 16th Level Draconic Resistance: You gain resist fire, cold, lightning, poison, and acid equal to 10 + one-half your level. 20th Level Furious Blade Dragonborn Champion Attack 20 Encounter * Weapon Free Action Melee Weapon Target: All creatures within weapon reach you can see Attack: Strength vs. AC Hit: 2[W] + Strength modifier damage Special: You must have been bloodied in this encounter to use Furious Blade. |

No Remorse should be triggered when you use an action point to attack a prone enemy, for example. The way Io's Gift works seems a little awkwerd to me (also, why choose Io over Bahamut?). maybe treat it as overland flight, where you must drop 1 square for every 4 squares forward. moving it to a clumsy fly speed at 21st seems fine. Tail Strike should be an encounter power. Shake it off is fine where it is. Energy resistance should only be to the type of your breath weapon, and then only resistance 10. Furious Blade should be a daily power, and as a minor change should say you can only use while bloodied. With all of that, i would say it was balanced. I prefer it to my feat setup, although maybe shere should be some kind of prerequisite (like at least 3 dragonborn feats, or something) |

I would like that change if I didn't change Tail Strike. ...why choose Io over Bahamut? I chose Io because the dragonborn may not be specifically good aligned. ...maybe treat it as overland flight, where you must drop 1 square for every 4 squares forward. I hadn't run across that section yet. That does sound good. ...moving it to a clumsy fly speed at 21st seems fine. I didn't want to make the 21st level fly clumsy because I didn't think it fit with the concept. I would think that the original Dragonborn most likely knew how to fight while airborne. Tail Strike should be an encounter power. Agreed. Energy resistance should only be to the type of your breath weapon, and then only resistance 10. I was really torn about this one. The MM Champion has an outrageous resist 30 to all of these, and I knew that to be too much for a PC, but tieflings get resist 5 + 1/2 level to fire for free. Maybe reduce it to resist equal to 1/2 level against all breath weapon energy types? Again, this seems to fit the concept. Furious Blade should be a daily power, and as a minor change should say you can only use while bloodied. I had come to a similar conclusion since posting this. I realized that a player could abuse this by healing to just above bloodied after every encounter. ...maybe shere should be some kind of prerequisite (like at least 3 dragonborn feats, or something) This fits with the idea of a racial paragon. |

I just don't think furious blade fits a dragon paragon. You could also work in a change to the breath weapon instead of adding a whole new power -- you know some enlarging of the draconis fundamentalis. |
