| #1alacritybagelJun 12, 2008 1:33:03 | I had a couple of random thoughts about the eggs of Dragonborn that i will probably be working into my campaign. - The repaired eggs (using the make whole ritual) of famous Dragonborn being highly prized collectors items. - Unfertilized Dragonborn eggs being delicacies in parts of the world...we'll see how the Dragonborn Paladin in my campaign reacts to that, hehe. There could be entire museums of these famous eggs! Decorated with portraits of the famous DB's they hatched! THE POSSIBILITIES ARE ENDLESS! |

| #3hellmuteJun 12, 2008 2:45:00 | Not bad. How about Fabrege Dragonborn Eggs? Make scenes in them and put a window to view the scene inside when held up to a light. |
| #4alacritybagelJun 12, 2008 3:30:33 | Ooo...fabrege...that's good. I've decided to plan an adventure around my party breaking up a gang of slavers that specialize in kidnapping Dragonborn females and selling their eggs on the black market. |
| #5Dark_StrykeJun 12, 2008 5:24:40 | Downright nefarious! That's a good plot angle. Just a suggestion: Make sure that the area of the world that eats dragonborn eggs considers them to be monsters. Otherwise it just seems kinda weird, like dwarves that find human babies to be a delicacy. |
| #6alacritybagelJun 12, 2008 6:15:06 | Downright nefarious! That's a good plot angle. HA! The first thing that popped in my head when I read that was, "Alright, I got the relic you wanted. I'll tell you what; you keep your gold and i get your baby." Sorry...but they are the other, other white meat. I guess having a Tiefling dominant area that still has a grudge over that whole "war with the dragonborn" thing wouldn't be much of a stretch. |
| #7vaalingrade_ashland_02Jun 12, 2008 8:03:30 | Unfertilized eggs aren't equivalent to babies. They're equivalent to the result of not having babies. |
| #8cliffracerslayerJun 12, 2008 8:05:55 | Unfertilized eggs aren't equivalent to babies. They're equivalent to the result of not having babies. Except that other than chickens not much lays them. |
| #9vaalingrade_ashland_02Jun 12, 2008 8:13:13 | Yes, but Bagel specifically mentioned unfertilized. |
| #10_jayne_cobb_Jun 12, 2008 8:25:40 | Except that other than chickens not much lays them. Precisely the point. The only egg you;re going to get out fo a Dragonborn is a fertlized one. Still, I could see some villainous individuals stealing Dragonborn eggs and selling them with the claim they are unfertilized. In essence, stealing children and selling them as food. |
| #11mudbunnyJun 12, 2008 8:38:31 | I have recommended that this trhead be moved to Campaign & Adventure Workshop. |
| #12ADHadhJun 12, 2008 11:55:38 | There's this disgusting to Western minds thing called "Balut" which is basically a boiled fertilized duck egg. I doubt anyone would like to eat a "Dralut" though. Or maybe should I call it "Dragonotborn"? Either way yuck! |
| #13vaalingrade_ashland_02Jun 12, 2008 12:42:46 | I'm more partial to the one where: Show A certain happy little bird is force fed grapes while living in a dark box until it's boiled alive in rum. It's eaten whole while wearing a black hood so that the diner is hidden fromt he eyes of God for the sin of eating such a thing. |
| #14kdemonicJun 12, 2008 13:21:54 | Here is a question. Do Dragonborn females actually lay unfertilized eggs? |
| #15darqueknightJun 12, 2008 13:30:42 | Heres are a few more questions. - When the egg is laid how long does it take to hatch? - Does the mother have to Nest or sit on the eggs? - Are more than one egg laid at a time in a clutch? - How does this affect Dragonborn society? Darn. Now you have my mind working on the Dragonborn again. See THIS is somewhere where some Fluff would have been nice...lol This Race is obviously going to have a society that is very different by the nature of its biology. It can't have the same social structure as humans when the whole cycle of life thing is so very different. Well ok it COULD have the same culture if this was Star Trek where all the races are the same only different. :D Something to think about . Good thread. Cheers! |
| #16fodiggJun 12, 2008 14:04:56 | There's this disgusting to Western minds thing called "Balut" which is basically a boiled fertilized duck egg. Ahhh. Balut. That's filipino food, right? (wiki) So far, my girlfriend (she's filipino) has not forced me to try it. She did make my try the "fermented shrimp paste". Wow. (not in a good way) --- Edit: Doh! I was so busy with my off-topic ranting that I forgot to include my actual on-topic question: How big are dragonborn eggs exactly? |
| #17alacritybagelJun 12, 2008 16:05:10 | Heres are a few more questions. My mind has been boiling on Dragonborn for awhile now (you might say hard-boiled...wokka wokka wokka), and all these questions fascinate me. In terms of interesting fluff, in this case, the Dragonborn have tons of potential. You have to imagine their eggs being a huge factor in their culture. As far as other questions about whether Dragonborn actually lay unfertilized eggs...I haven't read anything official on that but probably not. Does it make the most sense from a biological standpoint that they do? Not really, but that's (and forgive me if i sound glib) the thing i love about this game is that you can mold it into you want it to be. Maybe it could be that female Dragonborn lay an egg once a month...fertilized or not. It could be that their captors force them to lay eggs using dark rituals...who knows? |
| #18aneidJun 12, 2008 17:25:36 | Forget the Dragonborn. My dwarf wants his "baby-back, baby-back, baby-back ribs." Dwarves love to eat at Chili's. |
| #19ViolenceJackJun 12, 2008 17:43:09 | Not quite the same idea as the OP, but I was thinking about how much I dislike having a reptilian PC race. But then I started thinking about Kobolds. It'd be a fun thing if Kobolds were actually just the more numerous, degenerate descendants of the Dragonborn empire. Most eggs would hatch into Kobolds, but occasionally one would be the true Dragonborn. Maybe one in every fifty or so. Most of them would then either be the powerful leader of the tribe of Kobolds, or get frustrated and leave to live among the more civilized races. Due to their heritage they would of course face some significant prejudices. Just things I think about while having a shower in the morning... |
| #20herobearJun 12, 2008 18:04:07 | Downright nefarious! That's a good plot angle. Thank you for that laugh. "Awww...What a delicious looking baby you have! Wait...I mean adorable." |
| #21seanolanJun 12, 2008 18:32:25 | I doubt anyone would like to eat a "Dralut" though. Or maybe should I call it "Dragonotborn"? Either way yuck! Dragunborn. Sean |

It'd be a fun thing if Kobolds were actually just the more numerous, degenerate descendants of the Dragonborn empire. Or maybe Dragons only give birth to Dragonborn, and Dragonborn only give birth to Kobolds. Perhaps due to some curse put on the Dragons of olde for defying the gods. Each "generation" has weaker dragon blood. Could make for an amusing BBEG Dragon: Dragon (Adressing the Dragonborn Paladin in the party): L'uk...I am your father." Paladin: "NO! THATS...fairly probable actually. BUT STILL! I AM CONFLICTED ABOUT KILLING YOU NOW!" |
| #23theanthrodmJun 12, 2008 22:04:49 | That reminds me of the jokes about Dragonborn and Tiefling being related. Dragonborn: Random, I am your father. Tiefling: NO! That's..... statically impossible in normal fantasy and highly unlikely even if you're assuming the theory of evolution as standard in this fantasy setting! |
| #24justinmypantsJun 13, 2008 0:46:56 | - Unfertilized Dragonborn eggs being delicacies in parts of the world...we'll see how the Dragonborn Paladin in my campaign reacts to that, hehe. I like how it seems you're expecting him to be furious over the idea. I think it would be funny if he(she) just went with it. "Yeah, we do that back home too. Seriously, we're up to our eyeballs with eggs, we can't get rid of them fast enough. Every year we have egg eating contests. That's why we're so strong, all the eggs we eat." And then after seeing the shocked look on his companions' faces, "What? Your species don't eat their own inviable offspring?" ![]() |

That would be hilarious. The Dragonborn produce their own major trade good. No farming or crafting required. With multiple uses, too. For instance, when properly cured the shells are sturdier and more resistant than leather. Dragonborn Eggshell armor! |
| #26pepsijediJun 13, 2008 1:10:25 | I could invision castes.... with a sort of "Clutch mother" caste.... That or inversly, only the strongest female in a group can fertalize.. so she has the clutches and the other females help her raise the numberous offspring. This could lead to many char's with the same mother. Or with one mother but multible fathers, ect ect. The males might have to compeat for the right to breed with the ONE breeding female Females compeate to take the breeder's place. or inversly, One is chosen to "HAVE" to breed and doesn't like it but it's a duty. Maybe even a punishment "Be a good little Dragonborn or you'll have to be a BREEDER when you grow up!" You could go ALOT of different ways with this sort of thing. Me? I'm just thinking.. 'WOW, the size of that omelette! |

I think there is going to have to be some sort of Dragonborn Easter...perhaps a ficticious Kobold can come around and hide all the eggs. Easter Kobold. I'm craving an omelette. |
| #28Archus_ForixJun 13, 2008 21:22:34 | that's a point, is it possible for a dragonborn to be directly decended from a dragon? That is, its parents were dragons, or at least one of them were? |
