| #1damajaNov 13, 2008 15:03:47 | ok so my groups DM is planning to fire up a brand new Dragonlance campaign. It will take place right before the War of the Lance. We will not be interacting with the Heroes ... Caraman, Tanis, Raistlin etc etc and will not have anything to do with there quest during the war. My DM needs an adventure hook that kicks off at the same time as Chronicles book 1 kicks off right before the war, he wants our group to run an epic quest of our own to help during the Dragonlance war and for it not to affect what the heroes did themselves. We plan to start off in a small homegrown village and 30-35 miles north-east of Solace. Were figuring something big will happen while were in the village that leads off into an epic quest that will last throughout the war. He wants to do a campaign where our actions also help shapre the outcome of the war. anyone wanna jump on this? I told Jeff ... our DM I would see what ideas I could gather up from here from you guys for him to look over. |

| #3damajaNov 13, 2008 15:13:00 | Well, he has a couple of ideas already, but I kinda thought they were a little stale, so might be someone here has one of those EPIC minds that can put forth a hook that is fantastic lol /I could only hope |

| #5AldothNov 14, 2008 9:10:33 | Well if it is happening before book one and want a kicker look at the characters in the group. Ask a couple of key questions. Do you have a cleric? If you do how can they use clerical magic? Do you have a fighter? Are they a knight of solemnia (sp?) Basically remember that the Cleric is going to have a big burning target over there head in Pre Book 1 Krynn. What you might find more useful is set the game after the discovery of clerical magic back into the world. Book 2 I think. The cleric can be one of a new breed of clerics that has emerged and the other players have to protect them as they travel to a place the DM sets that will help in the fight against the dragon armies. If no clerics or Paladins then I suppose Start a game with the dragon armies taking over a village or town and the PCs have to escape. That would be a few suggestions off the top of my head. Beware the Kender Warlock with an infernal pact. |
| #6cariosNov 14, 2008 11:12:58 | I would guess that at that time and in that location there would probably be some draconian scouts lurking around and invasion would be only a short time away. Perhaps capturing some of these scouts could warn the party about the invasion and lead to the village being evaculated. To avoid the main Heroes quest you could head to the coast and evacuate by ship to some other country and continue the campaign from there... |
| #7ziptie_dupNov 14, 2008 11:27:19 | It may not be exactly what your dm is thinking but we ran one in 3.5 where our characters were all defectors of the dragon armies. They were ok with it but then they saw what was really happening and what was at stake and turned their backs on the armies. It worked really well and kept us well away from the Heroes of the Lance. |
| #8damajaNov 14, 2008 14:42:35 | to answer the questions above .... We planned to start right about the time of chronicles book 1. We do actually have Clara who wants to play a Cleric, but were unsure how to include her as a cleric seeing as Goldmoon was one of the first if not the VERY first true cleric to appear at that time. We basically just wanted an event to happen for our group that took us off in a different directions, we wanted the adventure to be epic, but not mess with what happened with the Company of the Lance. oh and we will be using 1E and 2E rules for our campaign Were there even clerics in Krynn at the time Goldmoon first came about with the staff? Could we even have a cleric in our group at the begining of book 1 of the Chronicles? If not, then how far into Chronicles would we need to go to have Clara as a cleric? Would she need to come into her powers without knowing how it happened or maybe find a magical item as Goldmoon did? |
| #9AldothNov 14, 2008 16:06:56 | See my first post on this thread to answer your question and read the books again to get an idea of what is possible. If the DM is running the game they at least needs to read them again if what is happening in the books is going to affect the game. The modules replace the Heroes of the Lance with the PCs so the modules are not going to be enough. |
| #10damajaNov 14, 2008 16:26:43 | Our DM does not want to replace the heroes with our characters, we will not have anything to do with the heroes and there adventure. He wants to take an adventure off in a different direction totally. |
| #11cariosNov 14, 2008 19:15:48 | to answer the questions above .... Becoming a cleric was pretty much restricted to people who had access to the Disks of Mishkal, which were found in the main story. It wasn't until after the war that widespread reconstruction of the churches of various gods was begun and clerics became more common. (I think this was how it went, haven't read the books for a few years.) I'd say if you wanted a cleric you would need to find some similar artifact which contained the teachings of one or more gods on it. |
| #12AldothNov 15, 2008 3:03:41 | Every time you replay to my post Damaja it is like you havent read them. 1 Basically remember that the Cleric is going to have a big burning target over there head in Pre Book 1 Krynn. your reply Were there even clerics in Krynn at the time Goldmoon first came about with the staff? I answered the question in the last post 2 If the DM is running the game they at least needs to read them again if what is happening in the books is going to affect the game. If you are asking a question please read the answer because it is a little annoying to be asked a question or making a statement that I have already addressed previously. I am not being mean but reading what people have written may help to address a question and so you dont need to ask it |
