| #1wildthunderAug 08, 2011 20:50:20 | Dragon Campaign Mechanics I have been prepping for a 4e campaign were the pcs start out as dragon hatch-lings and have decided to make a custom dragon race take a look and tell me what you think. Dragon race keyword Dragon Stats: base+4 stats and +6 stats to two stats of your choice. And +1 to all stats every even level This would replace the normal points a character can allocate leaving a dragon at level 1 with 14 in all stats and then 20 in two of them. HP: double hit points for all dragons. +2 to AC for scales Speed: Land 6, Fly 2 +1 fly for ever even level up to 12 Powers: Dragon fear and Dragon Breath as a DragonBorn Racial Powers Dragon breath as dragonborn Dragon fear as dragonborn Poly-morph: all dragons can assume the form of any medium humanoid while in this form they cannot perform any strenuous actions without breaking concentration and transforming back into dragons. Gift of tongues: all dragons can speak any language and understand any language. Other then these features a level 1 dragon would be essentially the same as a level 1 character. This worked for me because our group could still use character builder, something we have become very married to and are very unwilling to drop, with only some minor house ruling. I also like this system because it allows me to easily add extra bonuses via level ups if I feel they are needed or simply if I think of something “cool”. This setup worked fairly well in our first session, and the dragons proved to be a bit more effective then equivalent first level PCs while still not being ridiculous considering they are still hatch-lings. Just wanted to know what everyone thinks of this and if their are any game breaking things I missed that would be trouble down the road. |

Basicaly the standard lvl for these dragons will quickly be out of balence to the rest of the system. In 3.5 this was fixed by effective lvls so the dragons didn't gain to much xp for the fights, you will definatly need to toss XP and standard monster lvls out the window for this type of game. |

| #6pluisjenAug 12, 2011 4:00:09 | You can even just use Scion of Arkhosia as a Paragon Path for most of the features. Other then that they look really overpowered basically, far stronger then any normal PC would be. If you're not seeing it yet, then your players aren't really trying. |
| #7GarthanosAug 12, 2011 8:17:11 | You can even just use Scion of Arkhosia as a Paragon Path for most of the features. Just that, I have suggested in the past to others talking about this very thing to start their game in Paragon and go with it. Give the character Inherent bonuses and boons to represent built in magic. I considered some rule or another that for spell casting purposes treated a dragons size as well the size of and location of the Dragons Head and so on.. but didnt get very far ![]() |
