I haven't written up anything, and may not ever, but I'm considering pitching the idea to my group because we have some old school players who may prefer to regain the option to become lycanthropes and such. I posted this idea first in a completely unrelated thread as an answer to someone's concern that lycanthropy as an affliction no longer technically exists in 4e. So anyway, opinions on whether the mere idea itself sounds feasible, enjoyable, balanced, etc as a concept. - The general premise is that the disease itself will be like any other disease. Probably roughly on par with something like moon frenzy anyway, perhaps a bit more potent. An additional part of the final state would be that you now appear to be a half-man/half-animal humanoid (whatever animal that is, being up to you and your DM, because it's strictly cosmetic anyway). So now you look like a lycanthrope, and you can't hide the fact. Enter now the concept of the Lycanthrope Multi-class, based on the spellscars of FR and the Druid's Wild Shape. You take the multiclass feat for Lycanthropy, and get to turn back into your original form and/or the animal form of your lycanthropic breed (not sure how the power balance works out there, but since it's based on the current version of Wild Shape, I can't imagine it being THAT bad). Swap out powers like normal MCing, and you unlock more of the lycanthropic power now within your body. The majority of powers would be triggered immediate reactions or interrupts, usually with prerequisites of either you, a specific ally, or a specific enemy...probably adjacent to you...being bloodied (to reflect the prospect of "forced" transformation without actually forcing anything...which 4e seems to be focused on). Powers would be dependent on whether you're in either your original, natural, or animal form. All of the animal form powers would be of the triggered variety. Some of the natural form powers would also be, and only some of those would be the disease-carrying powers. The original form powers...I'm not sure about...not even sure if there should BE any. Have to see. As stated, only specific powers would carry the potential to transmit EITHER lycanthropy itself OR the inherent disease of your lycanthropic breed to others. Your children, however, would have the same chance of being born lycanthropes, shifters, or plain humanoid as any other child of a lycanthrope. - So as a concept...thoughts, opinions? Like I said, I won't be posting actual mechanics for some time, if ever. I just want to know how th IDEA sounds to people. Not gonna waste effort pitching it to my group or coming up with rules if the odds are that NO ONE will like it. |
