Hey I'm currently working on my first adventure and have been preparing the grid map of the dungeon in the last few days. I wasn't able to find any tools for map/dungeon creation on the net so I've been using autocad!

Are there any good programs out there? If not I'd be happy to go into how I created maps on Autocad if anyone is interested...

Autorealm works fairly well for a free download. They have a number of objects you can insert into the map too for things like difficult terrain or tables and beds, etc.

Outside of that I know the folks behind Campaign Cartographer have a Dungeon Builder too, but by that time you are looking at potentially dropping a decent chunk of change (maybe a $100 or so for both, not entirely sure on the price).

I believe Masterplan also has the ability to scan in dungeon tiles and the like in order to generate maps, but I've never tried it, so can't help you there.

Yep. Masterplan is a free piece of software (see here). You can build maps with it. It comes with some tiles arlready included in the program and in that thread there is discussion about a Yahoo group that has other tiles. You can also scan in images yourself to use as tiles.
