| #1rowlMay 04, 2009 6:50:24 | WORK IN PROGRESS Take a look, my version of an Elementalist class. Still working on it, but would like some feedback since it's still early on. Currently it's primal, but obviously could be Elemental power source when we know more about that. The main thing about it is that it is a true hybrid role class. The elemental focus determines the character's role. This is similar to the Warlock Pacts, but taken a step further. An Elemenalist can choose powers from any of the Focuses, which makes him VERY versatile, but the downside is that though the whole of the class is based on Charisma, almost every power uses a different stat, based on the type of focus for that power, for its attack value. Each focus has its own primary stat in addition to Cha for all Elementalists. Take a look and you'll see what I mean. Yes, I know some might think it gimps the class outright, but the concept is that you are likely to take your best stat in whatever you'll be using most for attack values, and second with damage values (likely Charisma). In any event I think the Elemental Strike feature covers that. Additionally, there is at least one attack power per grouping that uses Charisma for its attack values. Also, every power grouping has at least one Controller spell, and every focus has at least one Controller spell per tier. So, for the most part, the class can be called a controller, but depending on focus, is much stronger as a Striker (Air), Defender (Earth), or Leader (Water) - Fire is more of a Defender/Striker combo with a very little controller thrown in. I didn't include build options in the write-up because I think the concept is irrelevant when it comes to actually playing the class. Some of the artwork I'm using for it may get me banned from Astrid's, so be aware. The depictions were just too perfect for me NOT to use. Some may not be entirely safe for work. Not at all pornographic, just a tad racy. http://www.4shared.com/file/102966772/7d25bfa0/Elementalist.html |

The roles are pretty similar to what you've done. But, the way you've made all of the different elements into different roles built into the same class is intriguing. Sometime after a D&D session (3am madness), I started doodling up an Esper class (you know, from that Phantom Dust game?) and it had the same thing going for it. It had the whole "different role depending on how you build" thing going for it. Each of the schools (of Dust) correspond to a different role within the game. The Psycho school is primarily defender, the Optics school is a long-ranged striker, the Ki school is a short-ranged striker, the Faith school is a controller, and the Nature school is a leader. I'm not exactly sure if you'll stumble onto it, but what stopped me in my tracks was the possibility of making a character covering each of the roles. So what I did to remedy that was to make a beginning Esper pick a certain "Manifestation" at the beginning of the game, which determined your role. Each Manifestation would have a Ruling School and an Inferior School. (Kind of like Mage.) The "Shielder" manifestation, for example, was most proficient in the "Psycho" school of Dust (which provided a lot of defender-y powers) but forbade the character from ever taking powers in the Ki school (which was short-ranged striker). They could take feats that would allow them to expand into different school power lists... I'm not exactly sure why I'm telling this story. How did you make your PDF? :D |

I just made a word doc with inserted jpg's and then converted to pdf using Adobe Acrobat. The free adobe is just a reader, acrobat is the one you can do stuff with. I also used CS and some other prog's to edit the pics for insertion (particularly the WotC formats for class title and gonna put page number corners on it when I'm done). Thanks for the comments. |
| #4rowlMay 11, 2009 5:18:10 | Updated through level 16 powers. Made some changes to skills and features and some powers' damage output. Added some feats, including multi-class feats. Included names of the two planned Paragon Paths. |
| #5rowlJun 13, 2009 12:17:40 | Updated through level 19. Expanded on the feats and giving a little preview of a PP feature. I lost a lot of data recently, including some awesome elementalist familiars (phoenix!), when transferring files that I thought were saved to another drive, so that's some more work to redo. Slowly but surely, I'm gonna eventually finish this up. Still looking for and would appreciate feedback. |
