epic astral battle idea

For the last year I've been making a 1 - 30 campaign in my own campaign world where the gods are not present but may show up later, so there are no divine classes allowed.

I have all or most of the Heroic and Paragon Tier part finished with just a few details for each encounter to fill out. Though I have an outline of some encounters in epic tier I want to have more of an adventure in space feel to it like Spelljammer. Most of the encounters will take place in some known parts of what has been mentioned in "The Plane Above" book, but there were hardly any encounter ideas only campaign ideas. I've found some epic encounters in bonus chapters from "D&D for dummies".

What I'm looking for are encounters or encounter ideas that will help get my head back into the Astral Sea and that setting. I've found some random links within the Community and through searching with Google, but I'm sure there are countless other places.

Anybody with knowledge of these links, have made adventures/ encounters in the Astral sea, and other assorted knowledge is more than welcome.

Wow, no Gods...ballsy & very unusal!  I am wondering how you handle healing in your campaign then?

It seems in 4th edition you don't necessarily need a cleric nor a connection to the gods to have healing powers. Some arcane, psionic, and primal classes, like the artificer, don't have a connection to the gods. One of my players is an artificer and the main healer of the group. Plus using second wind and the occasional healing potion laying around an encounter is enough.

I'm not familiar with  Spelljammer, but if you're going for an outer-space type feel, make vehicle combat a big part of the encounters.  Lots of airships, astral skiffs, and armor-plated battle ships should do the trick.  This might make ranged attackers play a larger role, so I'd recommend giving the melee warriors some neat things to do - running boarding parties, maintaining the ship during combat, etc.

Remember to take into account the astral sea's lack of normal gravity, which makes some challenges / terrain features effectively "obsolete."

How high-tech are you imagining this campaign?

This is not going to be high - tech, but all things like the ships are powered by magic and the rules are base on whatever is presented in the "The Plane Above" book and what I've found under Chris Perkins' Iomandra campaign (community.wizards.com/wiki/Dnd:Iomandra/...) basically the battles in space will be similar to naval battles.
