| #1DuskweaverJul 31, 2010 6:00:56 | Based on the previews we've seen of the Essentials builds for the fighter and rogue, and Mike Mearls stating that he could easily see a sorcerer build that used a similar mechanic (basic attacks modified by class feature powers), I thought it might be fun to put together an 'Essentials' sorcerer build. It's only the barest bones of a level 1 build. I've called it the 'Essence Sorcerer', partly because that seemed appropriate for an Essentials build, and partly because I wanted the 'flavour' to be of a sorcerer who taps into the rawest essence of arcane magic and then shapes it to his will, rather than tapping into any particular source such as the Elemental Chaos or his own draconic ancestry. I tried to make it easily modifiable to a gish build. Most of the 'spellshaping' powers apply to all your basic attacks rather than just Sorcerous Bolt, so you could pick up a decent weapon proficiency and spellshape your melee basic attacks (a melee weapon-using arcane striker is something I've wanted for ages now). Also, the Sorcerous Shield feature ensures he will always have a good AC, while keeping him in robes (or naked, if that floats your boat...) You could potentially even use him as an arcane archer since you can take greatbow proficiency (or any other good ranged weapon) and make spellshaped ranged basic attacks with it instead of using Sorcerous Bolt. You could potentially dump Cha altogether, since your Dex would be high enough that you wouldn't benefit from Sorcerous Shield anyway. All comments gratefully received, of course. Anybody that wants to take this idea and run with it, fell free to add features or powers of your own. Like I said, this is a very rough draft. There are doubtless holes you could drive the Tarrasque through at this stage. Essence Sorcerer |
