Essentials Arcane Archer. Seeker or Warlock?

May 25, 2011 17:45:28 Hey, so I'm going to design an essentials arcane archer class (to compliment my wood sprite race I designed).

I'm debating wether I should use seeker or warlock as the base class. Seeker I would need to do like the E-ssassin (martial, shadow) and make it dual power sourced (arcane, primal). Warlock would be like a ranged version of hexblade.

Which do you guys think sounds more appealing?

May 25, 2011 22:21:14 The warlock. The seeker has pretty abysmal support. I'd just go with a hexblade style set up, and it'd be much easier to balance and would most likely be more effective. Think it should be alright to poach some powers from the seeker if you just really like them though.

May 26, 2011 21:30:50 I'd suggest bard as the base class. They already have arcane ranged weapon attacks as well as a bunch of bows that can be used as impliments for precisely that type of charecter. I see arcane archers exemplifying archery as an art, which fits well with the bard's fluff.

Yeah, I know bard has an archer build, but I've never seen the 4e bard as very arcane. In 2nd and 3rd edition, the bard was a jack-of-all trades who learned some lesser spellcasting as part of that.
In 4e, it seems almost like they have their own power source, Song, they has an almost completely different feel to it than the other arcane classes. And I actually like that about the 4e bard, really! But I just never saw the bardcher as an an arcane archer as much as I've seen them as a musical archer.
