EVERYTHING IS CANON IV Everything is Canon is a world building exercise that anyone can participate in. The rules: 1. You can only post two ideas per post. 2. You can add to anything: the geography, the gods, the nations, the monsters, the cosmology. it is a world we all share. 3. The ideas must be well thought out, yet light enough for others to add to it later. So no complete world history, but events, stories and ages are up for grabs. 4. All ideas are final: everything is canon once posted. 5. No race can be removed from the setting. For example: You can claim the elves are thought to be dead, but you can't be sure PREVIOUS THREADSEverything is Canon I Everything is Canon II Everything is Canon III ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ POST COMPENDIUM

| #2vman3forceJul 12, 2011 16:38:12 | The Azure Sands In the times of shifting when the spheres of existance were undergoing clestial upheaval, the mortal world came dangerously close to colliding with a neighboring sphere, Ista. The proximity of the two spheres caused a huge rift to form in the skin between, and as a result the region known as the Azure Sands was birthed. The sands blew through into the world from Ista - a land filled with great deserts of every color imaginable, and some beyond human perception. After the rift healed, the sands remained. Through millenia of change, they have become the home to a great many species and civilizations unlike those found anywhere else on the planet. Some say an "otherness" radiates from the region, an intangible power of a different world that affects anything that basks in it for too long. Rassal, The City of Bells Located high in the mountains of Neln, The city of Rassal thrusts into the sky with a hundred spires of stone. People of the lands below tell stories that Rassal is the place that the souls of the good travel to before passing on. The city was established fourteen centuries ago by the Phostan, who were the descendants of the third generation of angels. Innaccesible except by air, the city is known for its art, architecture and especially music. However, it is most famous for that which it takes its name, the legendary Chorus of Bells. Every spire in the city has at least one bell cloistered inside, brought sentient by ancient magics, and on special occasions the chorus is awoken and rings out throughout the mountains. Hearing the bells is said to be the most pure experience one can have in the mortal sphere. |
| #3ubbersheepJul 14, 2011 11:50:06 | Building off Rassal, The City of Bells At dawn every few weeks, the winds will flit through the mountains and soar up through Rassal, every bell rings in total syncronization that reverberates all across the land for several miles. Year round, the roads to Rassal are full of pilgrims, intent on hearing Dawn Chime. The pilgrims gather in the valleys around the city and camp there until the next Dawn Chime. Although the Dawn Chime itself is not a magical event, there is something in the pure, beautiful sound that is said to replenish the body and fill the soul with an optimism for life that was totally non-existant before. Trun, The Black Fortress The Archmage Tyronius Mord is the evil ruler of the wastes of Groshtok. From his high tower, made of pure darkness, Trun, Mord watches over the wastes. He once was a powerful ruler of all the lands around Groshtok, but was defeated in battle by a group of mercenary adventurers and priests. Since then, the kingdoms that surround Groshtok have kept their armies on partrol around the wastes, ever vigilant should Mord attempt to escape his prison. Mord slowly is rebuilding his power and plans to unleash a demmonic army on the realms about him...once he has weakened them from within. |
| #4vman3forceJul 14, 2011 18:54:26 | Fettre Dei Also known as the "eternal prince" and "the undying one," Fettre Dei is a godling blessed with eternal youth. Born during the late years of the Magiarky of Relin that dominated the western hemisphere of the world for five hundred years, Dei was chosen by the emperor as the holy scion of the empire. On his fifth birthday and was granted the powers of a deity through high ritual. However, although he remained a youth in physical form, over the years his mind became corrupted with the power he held, and he conspired to dethrone and kill Relin and take the throne for himself. Thus it was that the runewars began. The Runewars A period of great turmoil when the powers of the almighty Fettre Relin and his chosen scion Dei fought for control of the world's largest empire. Both embued with magical godhood, they tore the world beneath them asunder as they struggled. Lands were wiped clean, whole cities annhiliated, seas raised and the very air changed by the incredible magical volley between the two. Finally, Fettre Dei stood victor over his defeated patron, and the boyish godling cast Relin into an outer sphere of existance, sealing him from the world. However, as a last gambit the old king managed the feat of undoing partially the ritual tying Dei to his power - He was left much weakened, yet still immortal and unchanging. |
| #5ubbersheepJul 15, 2011 12:48:05 | Erinsburg and Ethinsburg The twin cities that rest on the western coast of the Soul Sea, both cities are vast political and economical powers in the politics that dominate the Soul Sea. Though both are nation states that owe no true allegiance to anyone other than themselves, the combined council was formed to govern both cities and combine the cities' vast wealth and power. For the last few decades, the two cities have become more and more corrupt, as the wealthy elite gain more and more money, and the poor of the city work for less and less in the dirty allyways that wind their way through the two metropoli. The Soul Sea The Soul Sea is a large basin of water that is connected to the Northern Ice Oceans by the Ramaddi Strait. It is several hundred miles long and wide, and is a salt water body. On the western side of the sea, the famed Dragon Maw's Gulf (formed by two near equal in laength peninsulas) is home to the largest city-state powers, including the Twin Cities of Erinsburg and Ethinsburg. To the North is Ramaddi Strait, which divides the landmass of Hassarn from the Western Dragon lands. To the east is the continent of Hassarn. To the south is the archipelago of Peloric. |
| #6admiral_lourveJul 16, 2011 6:42:21 | Dwarves Dwarves have white skin and sharp black quills which cover much of their body, their large eyes seem to glow with an eerie light. They are broad and rotund, with flat features and strong, heavy jawlines. They're lawless and liberated, living in loose bands in coldest wastes of the world, pillaging and drinking their way through life; however, they are master craftsmen and artists of all stripes. They usually carve temporary homes for themselves out of cliff faces and glaciers, leaving the world pitted with small caves which beasts later use as their lairs. Elves Elves have black skin and soft white feathers in a mohawk style across their heads, their eyes are dark, thin slits. They are tall and very thin, as if having been stretched, with long ears, sharp noses and pointed chins. They are very orderly and polite, all elves hale from the Elven Empire of Eldermain, a vast expansive civilisation ruled directly by the elven gods through a theocracy. The empire spans from a tropical rainforest through to mountainous evergreen woodland, no tree has ever been cut down, so the tales tell. |
| #7ubbersheepJul 16, 2011 11:27:24 | Warz Warz is a city-state built on the Redrock Mountains, on the southern peninsula of the Dragonmaw Gulf. It was built by gnomes several centuries ago, and is home to the world's most paranoid gnomes. The city is reachable on ground by only one path, a narrow pass between the steep, unclimbable cliffs of Solomon's Pass. The city is ruled by the Tribunal, a group of three of the oldest gnomes in the city, one is the head of the military, another the head of the city's maintanence, and the third the head of interactions with other species (or avoid interactions with them). The city is surounded by traps and patrolling gnomes, who ensure that no non-gnomes enter the city. The city itself is built on, and into the tallest peak of the Redrock mountains, with only a thin, small path that leads up from the Pass below. The city is considered, by the few non-warzin who know its location, to be the most secure, and well-protected city in the world. It is famed for its contigent of illusionists and teleportation expert wizards who use subterfuge and magic to prevent its location ever being discovered by divination, and to prevent magic-users from being able to teleport to it. Blood Beach The Beach that won infamy in the two orc wars is Blood Beach, so named for the countless dead that have covered its sands over the past a hundred years. The elves of Eldermain sent four armies to defend the beach during the first orc war, and held the small, isolated beach for twenty days, after which, the sands were red from the blood of orcs and elves that died on it. The orcs won the day by sheer numbers, and laid waste to the southern reaches of the lands of Hassarn. During the later years of the first war the humans of Ethinsburg and the elves of Eldermain recaptured the beach, repainting, as it were, the sands a new, deeper shade of red. The battles of Blood Beach were the turning points in the war. During the second Orc War, the Beach was invaded ten times by armies of Erinsburg, the Magiarky of Relin and the elves of Eldermain, the orcs of the Foe-Eater, and the humans of Razna. |
| #8vman3forceJul 16, 2011 12:06:40 | Arcus Anzelheim The Arcus Anzelheim, or "Book Sword" in Arcaic, is an ancient treasure of the nomadic wizards of the southlands. the sword has been passed from wizard to wizard for generations. Each wizard who takes posession of the sword imbues it with his life experience, copying his complete memory into the steel of the sword. Thus, it is thought that the Arcus Anzelheim is the single greatest store of knowledge in the world, carrying wisdom regarding almost any subject matter. The posessor of the sword can access this knowledge while holding its hilt, effectively making him the smartest person alive. However, because the vast bank of experience is too large for a single mind to hold, only a small amount of information may be extracted at a time, and a period of rest is needed after it is accessed before the user may do so again. Orcs Orcs are not of this sphere of existance: the primordial ancestor of the orc first came through a rip between this sphere and the sphere Hraela, a warm, damp world of complete darkness. This creature found its way into the caverns and cracks of the world and over the ages evolved into the modern orc. Orcs have a strange amphibious body with several sets of small lungs that breath through orfices in their skin and two rows of frond like gills that run down either side of their spine. They are bipedal, and have two sets of arms - one larger and a second smaller set that grow underneath and replace the first set if dismemberment occurs. Orcs have poor eyesight and are often completely blind, however they can sense vibrations in the air and especially in the water, and can "see" their surroundings as well as any human because of this, better when in the dark. Orc tribes tend to act indipendantly of one another, however they do not divide politically as do other races - they see all of orc-kind as one nation and tend to work along the same lines towards goals. They hate all other creatures without exception, and treat humans, elves and every other sentient race as enemies whenever they encounter them. |
| #9admiral_lourveJul 16, 2011 13:41:43 | Elements The classical elements, as far as the brightest minds of the world are concerned, are Radiance, Lightning, Fire, Air, Water, Wood, Earth, Metal, Ice and Darkness. It is these that fuel the world, and the anything can be made by utilising these elements. (I say this only because if we use the Elemental Chaos, it would have icy parts and pitch black areas and some breathable woodland locations) Goblins Goblins are born from ambient magic that exists naturally in the world, they can form around almost anything, and these objects give the goblin much of its personality. For instance, a goblin could be born inside a wine barrel, becoming a pink skinned "inn goblin", that serves drinks and steals bottles of rum, on the other hand a set of goblins could be born on a battlefield and become "bloody goblins", with sharp metal teeth, that are in a constant state of conflict with anything and everything. One odd occurrence is a given goblin growing around an object, giving rise to "shield-backed goblins", "coin-eye goblins" and "dagger-handed goblins". |
| #10ubbersheepJul 16, 2011 16:35:29 | Emperor Delphan I Delphan is regarded as the most heroic warrior ever to walk the earth. He is a hero that every human looks up to, and that every warrior aspires to one day be. Delphan united the continent of Hassarn and built an empire that has lasted for over two centuries. Delphan was born a commoner in one of the many small kingdoms that covered the prairies and hills of Hassarn. He trained for years, honing his skill with his spear, and eventually usurped the crown of the local lord. With the crown of a small kingdom, and the oaths of loyalty from his warriors, Delphan declared war on all who defied his order to unite. He battled orcs, goblins, demons, other humans, and elves to claim the flat continent of Hassarn for humanity, and made it the first great human Empire not built by a Theocracy. It is rumored that the reason Delphan lived so long (140 years) was that he fought Death in single combat and won. Whether this is true or not is still debated by some scholars. Though it is more likely that he used magic to keep himself alive. The Oracle of Nynn The Oracle is an ancient immortal, who served the Lady Fate for many centuries. He left her service and was struck blind. However, he still sees the past, present and future, and though he cannot see his way, he knows what lies at its end. Many kings and emperors, warlords and knights have gone to the Oracle to discover their fate, and though few are granted their wish, all return humbled and changed. The Oracle resides on the volcanic island of Nynn, which rose out of the sea in a violent explosion that shook the Earth. The Oracle is the only one who can live on the island safely, and he is the only one who can navigate it's molten rivers, and explosive caverns. |
| #11vman3forceJul 16, 2011 19:51:38 | Split-souls Twins are often called split-souls and many variances of the same term by cultures across the world. This comes from the pecilular trait they have of often being born with shared magical ability. Although not every set of twins possesses this gift it is a unique one: while apart they have no ability to use their powers, however together they can weild forces greater than most trained wizards. Tthe spells that split-souls are born with are elemental in nature - affecting the very world around them. Each twin controls a single element, and a pair always controls complimentary elements: matter-souls control Metal and wood, heat-souls fire and Ice, light-souls Radiance and Darkness, plane-souls Earth and Air, and storm-souls Lightning and Water. Rumors are that if a set of split-souls is born and one is a stillbirth, all of the power is transferred to the one living twin. However, it is said that the twin will without fail be insane. The Chambers of Rath A long string of tunnels stretching through the Mountians of Neln. They have long been a highway in the underworld, where the denizens of the deep can pass from the northern caverns under the Ice Oceans to as far down as the upper edges of the Southland deserts. The tunnels are named after their creator, the great worm Rath. He is on record as the largest tunnelworm ever to live, and when he was alive great tremors could be felt on the surface as he dug his way up and down the mountainchain. He was slain by the legendary hero Gora the Mighty, and the site of their battle is the most well known entrance to the underworld. Rath's partially exposed skull projects from the mountain side, forming a great gate to the caverns below. A large town (named after the beast) has grown up around the skeleton, and underworld and surface people meet here to trade. |
| #12ubbersheepJul 16, 2011 22:12:30 | Lord Bayou Montcrieff Lord Montcrieff is possibly one of the most powerful wizards in the world. He is a gnome of great esteem, and is one of the only gnomes that doesn't have the paranoid xenophobic fear that characterizes his species. He is one of the most famous adveturers, famed for battling (or most often confusing) dragons and liches, vampires, and warlords. His powers over the schools of evocation and illusion are the greatest in the land. He is more charismatic than most knights in shining armor, and is famed for a smile that win over any Queen. He is flashy as he is deadly, though his goodness is famous. He is one of the richest people of non-royal blood, though if you asked him, he'd probably say he was royally-related or something. He often cares for those less fortunate fighting goblins for farmers, or demons for kings, with equal pleasure, and for the sake of good. Trimu, the Shepherd Trimu is an Evil Deity who is known not to actually have a willing church. All of his clerics have been enslaved by him or another of his priests, forming long chains that all lead back to him. It is said that any priest who begins to doubt his faith (if good), and slowly begins to fall to evil, even if not to Trimu, will eventually become enslaved by him....many evil priests fear him, for his power can creep into their minds without them knowing. Trimu was thought killed by several gods who battled him...it is unknown as to where or not he still lives, for his church was never an easy one to find, and only his 'clergy' knew of themselves and those that they had enslaved. |
| #13vman3forceJul 20, 2011 15:05:54 | (Nobody else wants to play?) Fassu, the Bone King The god of bones. Fassu takes the skeletons of the unconsecrated dead into his possession. He can control them to do his will in the mortal world, and many of the naturally occuring undead in the world are under his direction. Fassu himself has no true form, instead taking whatever shape he wishes by using the bones he controls. Those who have seen him incarnate say he perfers to inhabite intricate, almost artistic constructions of bones from many different creatures. Fassu is a wild god, meaning that he does not attend any of the holy pantheons. Rather, he acts on whims and animalistic ambitions. Rondex City Rondex City is located on a small island in the sunken sea, a body of water located inside a huge depression in the western region of Hassarn. It is a center of worship for three competing factions of the Nimur religion; each faction sees the others as heretics of the faith. For the past hundred years the island has been split into thirds by a complex of walls that meet at the center of the city where the Nimur stone stands - the focus of the faith. The people of Rondex have very little chance to travel between the different sectors due to the military control of the factions, and so over time they have become alienated from one another. |
| #14spazzlefrazzleSep 28, 2011 21:53:00 | The Ancient Wizard Towers It is said that there once existed seven great wizard guilds, and each one of these guilds had their own tower where they studied and stored their vast collection of arcana and lore. Each tower was run by an Archmage, and the seven Archmages were the best magic-users in the world. Most of the fabled Wizard guilds have been lost in the mists of time, yet rumors persist of myserious towers lurking in the far reaches of the world. To date, the only tower that remains known to the world is the infamous Tower of Trun, located in the wastes of Groshtok. The Wishing Stone Legend has it that long ago, there existed a spell of ultimate power. The spell, known only as Wish, allowed the caster to do almost anything. Only the seven Archmages of the world knew how to cast Wish, and the spell itself took days to properly execute. It was soon learned, however, that the spell was inherently destructive; if the caster wished to create a new plane, and older plane was destroyed in the process. If the caster wished to be invincible, he ceased to exist in the planes of existence. Even if the caster wished for completely benevolent things, such as the end of a famine in a kingdom, the spell would accomplish this by some horrible means, such as wiping out every citizen of that kingdom. In the Fifth Great Council of the Archmages, the spell Wish was agreed to be too horrible to cast by anybody. The Archmages combined their magical knowledge and re-wrote the fabric of reality. In the process, they created a stone, which they split into seven fragments. In each fragment, they sealed a fraction of the power words that allowed them to cast Wish. By sealing Wish in the stone fragments, they made it impossible to cast the evil spell without gathering all seven pieces. Each wizard guild was charged with the protection of one fragment. Some guilds kept it in the saftey of their tower, while others built elaborate dungeons and labyrinths to protect their stones. |
| #15GoblinGravyOct 04, 2011 15:41:16 | Mer'ukkats: Mer'ukkats are a breed of Goliaths that have fur covering their bodies, which can be shades of blue, green and gray. The Mer'ukkats are often percieved and stereotyped as dumb, wild brutes, but have secret societies in many places. They are usually akin to a familiar, often a forest animal. They are primarily native to the Woodlands of Uzran. These woodlands bear many rare fruits and are home to rare fey animals. While Mer'ukkats are the natural inhabitants, elves recently have claimed these lands as theirs rightfully, much to the chagrin of the Goliaths. |
| #16vman3forceDec 18, 2011 11:19:04 | Pitch Fields A byproduct of the devastating runewar, large tracts of land across the world were transmuted into a poison mud of oil and dead matter. Pitchfields are generally desolate of any life, and are often hotbeds of undead swarms. One of the largest pitch fields, known as the Grey Waste, Is the site of the world's only undead city. Citadel of Faalne A city of undead creatures. Faalne was founded by the Netherin, descendants of the fourth generation of angels. In the days before the runewar it was a city of incredible beauty. However, the spells cast on the region poisoned the earth for miles around and devastated the land, Killing almost all the inhabitants of the city. Due to their angelic lineage, the corpses of some of the Netherin became reanimated over time as sentient monstrosities and continued to inhabit their former home in a state of quiet deathlessness. Very few among the living have seen the Citadel of Faalne, and even less claim to want to. It is said that among the ruins of the city lie great vaults of ancient bodies, laid out and tended by the undead Netherin in hopes that one day their long lost loved ones will awaken from death and join them in the city once more. |
