So I ran my first 4e session last week and it was a blast. We used home-converted Eberron (though that didn't come into much play this session) and everybody still needs a little time to get into the rules, but I'm sure soon everything will play like clockwork.

So for the second session I wanted to put the PCs through an evil carnival/circus run by an insane Thuranni illusionist. I've already come up with a few encounters for this adventure such as:

The Freak Show - The fight takes place on a stage where the PCs fight against the Illustrated Man, the Devourer, the Dust Witch, and the Human Lightning Rod. The trick of the fight is that there is an illusory crowd whose reactions to their entertaining successes (critical hits, taunts, etc...) or boring failures can influence the battle.

The Midway - The PCs battle a gaggle of vampire spawn clowns while in a tent filled with games and gambling. There is a test of strength for the fighter, a shooting gallery for the warlock, and a dice table for the cleric, the winning of each of which will garner some benefit for the PCs.

The Bigtop - Where the PCs have a showdown with the Thuranni illusionist around the massive Khyber dragonshard that solidifies his illusions. Acrobats swing down to attack from trapeze while the illusionist dances in and out of the range of the empowering dragonshard.

If anyone has any ideas for other challenges or encounter areas I still need a couple more encounters so go ahead and let me hear them. In particular if anyone has any idea how to mechanically convey a maze of mirrors that would be great.

Thanks guys.

Check out "Carnival of Tears" by Paizo Publishing.

It's written by Nick Logue and is the perfect evil carnival adventure.

A suggestion, and a nitpick. First the suggestion:
The Menagerie - a cordoned area contains several caged fantastic beasts, which a whip-wielding ringmaster unleashes on the party at a rate of one per round.

Now the nitpick: per the setting the illusionist's shard should be a Siberys shard rather than a Khyber shard. Siberys shards are the only ones that actually interact with dragonmarks.
