Explosions do damage, lots of damage, but they do even more damage to something that takes up most of the explosion. This is why you don't hold onto fireworks.

Internal Explosions:
If an explosion type AOE happens inside some one, the damage is maximized.
The save changes to fortitude and is increased by 20.
If the creature dies, it is blown up and every one in the AOE takes normal damage.
The Explosion may have an AOE outside the creature anyway at the DM's discretion.
Taking most of the blow (at DM's discretion):
If a creature takes up most of the Area of effect, the damage is increased by half.
If it takes up most of the area of effect and provides cover then the damage is, instead, doubled.
Have fun.

I think you're looking for the previous edition forums. Fortitude is no longer a save, it's a Defense.

I have not yet read any 4ed books and cannot create the rules in a way to apply to them. If you have you may quote the parts that need changed and suggest the changes. Be constructive, don't flame.

Everything is cool here, were all friends and squarecircle was just trying to be helpful. Fortitude, Reflex and Will work like 3.5 AC. Keeping this in mind I would have to say an increase of 20 is synonymous with an auto-hit. Keeping this new information in mind I would rethink your numbers. If you want to post in the 4th Ed forums go ahead and say that you are unfamiliar with the edition, that way we will know what kind of advice to give.

Actually this is the House rules sections in D&D community, it is not exclusively 4ed.
and +20 is because you have to be a Chuck Norris scale badass to resist a fireball going off in your stomach. Just remember, it takes a few good skill checks and some creativity to get in there. And you are likely to have it blow up in your face even if you succeed.

Actually all of the DnD community is running 4ed. Previous editions now have a section, 3x included. It's right here http://forums.gleemax.com/forumdisplay.php?f=8
