The volume amounts assume standard humanoid proportions of 6:2:1.
Size - Desription - Height Range - Vol (in 5' cubes) --- radius of sphere (5' sq)
0 ---- Diminuitive - 1'2" to 1'9" -- 0.00077 to 0.0026 - 0.12 sq to 0.18 sq
1 ---- Tiny ------- 1'10" to 3' --- 0.0030 to 0.012 --- 0.19 sq to 0.30 sq
2 ---- Small ------ 3'1" to 4'11" - 0.013 to 0.052 ----- 0.31 sq tp 0.50 sq
3 ---- Medium ---- 5' to 7'11" --- 0.56 to 0.22 ------- 0.51 sq to 0.80 sq
4 ---- Large ------ 8' to 12'8" --- 0.23 to 0.91 ------- 0.81 sq to 1.30 sq
5 ---- Huge ----- 12'9" to 20'4" -- 0.93 to 3.8 -------- 1.3 sq to 2.1 sq
6 ---- Gargantuan 20'6" to 32'9" - 3.8 to 15.7 -------- 2.1 sq to 3.3 sq
7 ---- Collossal -- 32'9" to 52'4" - 15.7 to 64 --------- 3.3 sq to 5.3 sq
8 ---- Titanic ---- 52'6" to 84' --- 64.3 to 263 ------- 5.3 sq to 8.5 sq
9 -------------- 84'1" to 134'11" - 264 to 1091 ------ 8.5 sq to 13.7 sq
A ------------- 135' to 214'11" -- 1092 to 4410 ------ 13.7 sq to 21.8 sq
B ------------- 215' to 343'11" -- 4420 to 18,100 ---- 21.8 sq to 34.9 sq

The letters A stand for 10 and B for 11 respectively. In combat you subtract the target's size number from that of the attacker and apply the difference as a modifier to your attack roll. Small targets are harder to hit and larger ones easier.

I'll have to take a look at this again later and figure out if the attack bonus is balanced (on first glance, I think so; I can't see anything wrong with it at the moment), but why haven't you named the last 3 categories? You can add Fine next to Diminuitive, but I'm not sure about the others.

Here is the extended size categories, they get a little ridiculous when I run out of letters to represent them and use other symbols instead, I run out of names far sooner than that, probably you only need sizes 0 through 9 for a D&D game, but if the basic combat system is going to be abstracted to fit other generes, such as space ship combat, then the larger sizes couls represent space ships or large vehicles. At the bottom of the list are planetary size objects - that is just so I have a category to classify them at, they could be used in a Spelljammer campaign also.

I use a unicode system similar but not identical to that used in the Traveller campaign, take 'A' to represent 10, 'Z' represents 35, "*" represents 42.

I've made a mistake when dealing with the size numbers: The attacker subtracts his Size number from the target's size number and that is the bonus (or penalty) he applies when making his attack. The 4e combat system doesn't incorporate size considerations into its calculation of AC and Reflex, so I would incorporate them into the attack roll instead.

Future Expansion
So for a future expansion of the GSL system, say you wanted to randomly roll a random planetary system for a science fiction game:

Roll 1d10
result --- Size Code
0 0r 10 - X = 532 miles + 1d10 times 31.9 miles and round down
1 ------- Y = 851 miles + 1d10 times 51.1 miles and round down
2 ------- Z = 1362 miles + 1d10 times 81.8 miles and round down
3 ------- ! = 2180 miles + 1d10 times 130.9 miles and round down
4 ------- @ = 3489 miles + 1d10 times 209.4 miles and round down
5 ------- # = 5583 miles + 1d10 times 335 miles
6 ------- $ = 8933 miles + 1d10 times 536 miles
7 ------- % = 14,293 miles + 1d10 times 857.7 miles and round down
8 ------- & = 22,870 miles + 1d10 times 1372.2 miles and round down
9 ------- * = 36,592 miles + 1d10 times 2195.5 miles and round down

For 9 planets:
Size ---- Radius
$4 ----- 11,077 miles
Y0 ----- 851 miles
Y8 ----- 1259 miles
#3 ----- 6588 miles
*8 ----- 54,156 miles
%7 ----- 20,296 miles
$6 ------ 12,149 miles
Z7 ------ 1934 miles
#0 ------ 5583 miles
