The idea is they are treated like other PC for the share-out of Experencie points. The creature is like a second PC for the player. Consider it would be like mercenaries who help main PCs. Other idea is some very dangerous item or weapon (I think about gunpowers) are like item-class (a canon of level X is more powerful that a canon of level 1). I try PCs with very powerful item reach later higher levels because with so good toys their adventures are easier. I think a lot of playtesting is necesary, but the first step is saying the idea. What is your opinion? |

The scaling rules in the DMG could be used for this, but it's really only designed to shift a creature up or down a few levels, not 20+ over the life of the character. Also, does this mean you must scale encounters for 1 extra PC? That seems like it would cause trouble quickly, as mounts and such generally aren't equal to PCs. I'd really like to see a fair way to add summons and companions to the game beyond what we've already seen, but this would require very serious and careful thought. |

That is my idea. Other optional rule would be the most powerful item (magic weapon, a lot of scrolls and tatoos, explosives arrows, a sword of legend..) "transform" in equivalent to monster (PXs value). It isn´t equal a gobling with a knive and a shield that a gobling of level 1 with a super self-reloaded crossbow and six "hand grenades" (or using a catapult). What if there is a "mecha" (giant contruct/robot)? It would be like a template with diferent levels, or if you spent points when you buy item in a game of D&D miniatures. |
