I feel that skill training is one of the weaker feats. I'd occasionally like to take it, but it always seems like it's the least of several options on the table. It's subsumed by many multiclass-dip feats (although admittedly this isn't relevant for characters who have a specific multiclass need and also want to take skill training for something else.) What do you think about this feat?

Skill Education
Prerequisites: 21st level, 15 Intelligence
Benefit: You gain training in two skills. The skills need not be on your class list.

Note that it can only be taken once, so Skill Training is still vaguely useful at epic, if you truly want a bunch of skills. Also, this adds to the overall 'usefulness' of int for classes that don't have it as a prime stat, which I feel is desirable.

I think that this is a good feat for a homebrew game that doesn't heavily rely on skill challenges to progress through the game. I also think that is why it would never be an official feat in the books because it depends on the DM's style of play. Also, I think the int prerequisite might be a little low, but I'm hesitant to say that.

I'd started with it at 17, but I didn't want to make it infeasible for characters who weren't bumping int every level. At the same time, I didn't want to make it trivial for everyone regardless of int. 15 at epic is the same as 13 at heroic assuming you don't bump the stat.

What about the Background option that lets u consider all skills as class skills? That way, you can use ur class trainings to take whatever skills u want. If this Background is already part of the character, would u still want the extra training feat?

1. Where is that background option? It sounds overpowered, since most only allow you to take a single skill as a class skill.

2. Part of the idea behind skill training in the first place, and behind my feat as well, is to simply grant you more skills. I decided to mimic skill training in the "need not be class skills" department, but there's nothing preventing you from taking class skills with it too. Even if you have the above background (I'm dubious that's what it meant), you still have to actually TRAIN the skills.

Unless there is a large gap in my understanding of how skills work in 4e... you don't gain any new ones after 1st level without feats, do you?
