A world where the current generation struggles to understand the wonders and works of the generation who enjoyed the height of civilization. Each person on the world is born into, and aquires more Bindings in thier life. Bindings are oaths. A magical social contract that binds the chaos of the world from harming anyone the way chains binding cargo to keep it from breaking free. Those who break thier Bindings are hot spots for bad things to happen. Bindings: "you shall not lie" "You shall always give to temple" "You shall not enter sacred ground" "You may not strike first" ETC. Also inportant are Transitions Points. Transitions Points are where two things meet. Eg. The enterance of a graveyard.(transition point between normal and sacred ground), where two roads meet, or a birthday( transition point between two ages) Bindings may be suspended where two transition points meet. Eg. I have a binding not to lie, but I can lie standing at the doorway of a temple on the day the calender moves from spring to summer. Maybe the reason the world has gone to hell, is that the one god broke his binding to watch over the world when he left or died. Just some first thoughts. Any ideas? |

Maybe there are cults devoted to destroying/moving transition points to make sure that the bindings are harder to break (Lawful if you use 3.5e terms), while others are devoted to creating/moving them so that bindings are easier to break (Chaotic in 3.5e terms)? Any ideas about what happens to people who break their bindings, or would that be on a more case-by-case basis? And do they get anything good out of taking on more? |

For binding breakers, I was thinking that a guy down the road falls off his horse and breaks his leg, or some such thing. With bad events building up for continued abuse. I like the idea of the players(and characters) not really knowing what they can safely get away with. They will always imagine things worse than they actual would be. I would have to craft some reward/penalty system for more or less bindings, and based on the difficulty of the binding. |
