| #1thecosmicgooseDec 14, 2008 7:38:04 | this idea has been bouncing around in my head ever since 4E came out. it concerns the arrangement of powers in catagories based on how often you can use them. simply put, i prepose changing the current system slightly to use a "uses per day" rule instead of the current "will/encounter/daily" arrangement. to elaborate: each character has a selection of powers as usual. these powers are still orginized into at-will, encounter and daily. however, they also recive a number of "use slots" that they must spend in order to activate a power. at wills obviosly dont have use slots, as you can use them whenever anyway. you gain a number of encounter and daily use slots equal to the number of powers you have (you have 3 encounter powers, so you have 3 encounter use slots, and so forth) you can spend these slots to activate powers in any order you want, as so long as you have slots left. you can spend a daily use slot to activate an encounter power if you chose, but this exchange does not go the other way. you cannot spend multipul encounter slots to activate a daily power. otherwise the rules pretty much stay the same. if a monster has a power that comes online when bloodied (or some other requirement is met) the monster gains access to that power, and a bonus daily use slot that he can use to activate that power, or activate any other power the monster possesses. a short rest restores all your encounter slots, while an extended rest restores encounter and daily. a feat or class feature that allows you to retrieve a used power instead provides a bonus use slot, and so forth. the one hitch i cant get past is a slight rebalancing the monsters will need. this option makes the heroes slightly more powerful, so the monsters will need a tweek to keep everything even. but what would be appropreate? some ideas i had Monster get 1 bonus use slot they can spend however they want if a power recharges, its recharge rate improves by 1 (if it repopped on a 5 and 6, it now repops on a 4, 5 and 6.) or maybe reduce the XP rewarded by some amount. so what does everyone think? |
