| #1Chiba_MonkeyMay 27, 2010 12:25:38 | So, I was seeing a lot of video-game inspired campaign ideas here, and for the most part, I'm usually not interested. However, I did realize that I had come across a perfect Red Mage build when showing a buddy how Hybrid Rules worked in the CB (Warlord|Wizard, or alternately Warlord|Sorcerer). I got to thinnking: Final Fantasy 1, since the character don't have distinct personalities like in later games, could be a great campaign. Heroic Tier: Rescue Princess Sarah and fight Garland. Travel to pravoka/fight Bikke, get boat. Travel to dwarf/elf lands. -> issue: I am unsure if Heroic Tier should end with defeating Astos and saving the Elf prince, or alternately, going to Melmond and defeating the vampire. Obviously, if heroic end with the prince, the firts trip to the Terra Cave will be in early Paragon. Paragon Tier: Meet the sage Sarda/sages in Crescent Lake Travel deep into the Earth Shrine and defeat the Lich Travel to Mt. Gulg and defeat Marilith Travel to Ice Cave and recover the Levistone Use Levistone to recover the Airship. -> Issue: Should the citadel of challeenges and "class change" be in mid-paragon, or represent the transition to Epic tier? Recover the fairy and retrieve Oxyale Travel to Onlak, defeat Kraken ->Issue: Paragon to Epic Tier transition is another tough one. I am thinking that the fight in the Air Shrine against Tiamat, as one fo the four shrines, should be in Paragon. However, since so much more is involved, I think that everythign leading up to the discovery of the lost Lufenian culture, and finding an entrance into Mirage Tower and the Shrine itself, being harder, should be early Epic Tier. Epic Tier: Enter the Temple of Fiends/travel back in time Fight Lich, Marilith, Kraken and Tiamat again. Confront and deafeat Chaos. Obviously, there will be some issues with travelling, resting, magic item distribution (I'm thinking of making sure the party ritualist gets Enchant Magic Item and can convert gold and treasure to anb equal amount of residuum if needed, to remove the need for being able to spend gold on magic items, although they will still be available in shops. The class change itslef will be an issue, I was thinking of granting everyone a bonus encounter power of some kind. Knights might get a 1/encounter "Inspiring Word" type power, for example. Epic Tier consisting mostly of the inside of the Temple seems kinda odd. But with working out the ability to rest/recover in there, it should be okay. The upgraded boss fights should prove challenges even at epic tier. ALTERNATELY: The entire campaign can end after Paragon tier. Heroic tier could encompass everything up to the class change. Do Earth Shrine->Ice Cave->Citadel of Challenges->the proceed with Fire Shrine and others "Class Change" will be the aquisition of Paragon Paths. What do you guys think? Feedback? Input? Criticisms? |

All those FF guides and soundtracks I bought really came in handy during the creation process. I ran all 30 levels worth, though I ended up taking a few things from the later games and throwing them in to round out my extended story. FF1 on its own really isn't enough. At least that's how I felt. It started with the heroes being from a village in the forest not far from the kingdom of Cornelia. The darkness has just begun to cover the land, and an earthquake ripped into the village (yes, got this one from FF3). Goblins spewed out and attacked the village. The heroes saved their home, and then descended into the chasm created by the earthquake. In the ancient ruins below, they discovered the "ghost" of the sage Chronodia, who had saved the last fleeting lights of the four crystals and transformed them into the crystal shards, giving them to the heroes and charging them with the quest to discover the source of the darkness and bring the light of the crystals back to the world. From there, I had the king hear of their heroic effort in the village's defense. He sends an envoy to bring the heroes to the castle, where they learn that Garland, the kingdom's champion, has betrayed his liege by stealing the Princess Sara and taking several knights loyal to him. Those that opposed found themselves caught in a powerful magic sleep, and are still under effects. The heroes are exactly what the king needs right now, and gives them the quest to find Garland and retrieve the Princess alive. Thats how I started it. Throughout the Heroic Tier, they discovered that dark magic was spreading. This was the work of Astos, who desired to rule all the land. Giving Garland the magic he required, sapping the elves vitality, commanding murderous pirates, and fooling the heroes into getting him the crown of command (yes, took that from Talisman), which would allow him to cast his spell of dominion over the world. Matoya even mentioned that his magic was somehow related to the darkness, not knowing it was the orb he gave Garland that actually helped cause this whole mess, but they don't figure that out until much later. Paragon Tier had them go through the Earth Crystal and Fire crystal with the Citadel of trials as the transition to Epic, complete with a boss battle against Bahamut himself. Intsead of class changes, they gained their epic destinies, and some really nice magic items. Epic Tier they took on the Water and Wind crystal, though I gave Tiamat a monstrous army that she deployed from the fortress in order to scour the land for the master. It ended with the trip through time, aided by Chronodia, and the fight against Chaos. Most of the details save the beginning and the very end have disappeared into the fog in my head, but that was the basic idea. I know I took other things from some of the other games when it fit. I even think I actually threw Cid in there somewhere. Hope this was of some help to you man. May the crystals guide your path. |
