This seems broken the way I am reading it; I can fire the weapon as a minor action then? Three attacks for the win! It takes a standard action to properly load and prepare a muzzel-loader. If you have paper cartridges, it only takes a minor action. I think you are trying to make reload times too historically accurate; thus you had to make firing time lower. With the rules above, I could convert all my actions to minors, and then fire and drop three times in a round for a triple attack. This is a common pitfall with black powder systems. Try toning the damage down and making it either Load minor or Load free to balance. At the extreme end of the spectrum would be a Load Move weapon (maybe the largest muzzle weapon, a two handed cannon of some sort), which can be dropped to a load minor with a feat. It may not be uber-realistic, but then realistic would be unreasonably tough: "It requires 3 rounds performing no other actions to reload a muzzle-loader." which just won't do either... Also, depending on your setting you might want to lessen the number of categories of powder weapons. I can imagine the less accurate powder weapons being along the same difficulty to fire and master as a simple crossbow. Why are all your firearm weapons essentially superior ranged weapons? Just some thoughts.. |
