Here's some stuff I'm a-plannin': 1) Insect swarm + zombie minion horror combo. 2) Large kobold + trap + weasel + hazard uber-fight. 3) Having a couple of the 3.5e iconics as dead-bodies ( ).4) Some skill challenge diplomacy / puzzle encounters. What you got? |
| #2mistress_of_mockeryMay 24, 2008 8:56:56 | Good old kobold infestation for me. That idea of having the 3.5 iconics dead is a pretty funny/good idea. I'll probably sneak it in but I'm not sure if any of my players will really notice. |
| #3mholland_dupMay 24, 2008 9:12:31 | That is a brilliant idea! :D Man, I feel evil right now for even thinking about it... |
| #4pogminkyMay 24, 2008 13:23:24 | I'm also tempted to throw in a delusional gnome who think he's a monster. Or at least a badger called Francis. But this could get silly very quickly. |
| #5JohnLynchMay 24, 2008 22:45:02 | After I run H1-E3, devil worshippers will be in my first adventure. |
| #6pogminkyMay 28, 2008 13:32:39 | Gonna add rituals/components as treasure. |
| #7mistress_of_mockeryMay 28, 2008 17:38:25 | I think I'll put the good ol' kobold crawl on hold. I've been itchin' for some Ravenloft so I'm going to creep my players a bit after H1. |
| #8bleedingstarMay 28, 2008 22:32:13 | Starting off with a local constible that is making a deal with a hag. The constible has a buddy that found a crazy egg while digging. Hag knows that it is dragon egg and one particular customer who is willing to pay a high price for it. |
| #9dyserMay 29, 2008 3:54:27 | This is what I'm thinking: Each of the PCs is in the city where the campaign opens for their own reasons, unrelated to but during a major festival. At one point when the PCs all happen to be passing by, a fat, drunken noble starts tossing coins into the street to show off, and inadvertently starts a massive street brawl. The PCs each got caught up in this by virtue of being in the wrong place at the wrong time, and due to whatever secret or personal reasons they had for being in the city, when the guard comes to put the rioters in the Keep's dungeons for the night to sleep it off they don't resist. It's only one night, right? Better to maintain a low profile and/or not stir up trouble.... That's the setup, so the PCs start off in jail. At some point during the night, there's a commotion. Cultists are striking at various places in the Keep and the city, creating confusion. Their real target is the Merchant-Lord of the city, and his personal bodyguards escort the noble down to the hidden entrance to the catacombs to get him out of the city, which just happens to be through the PC's cell. (Adapting this bit from Elder Scrolls: Oblivion.) It was supposed to be kept empty, but due to the riot there wasn't enough room for everyone. Since they don't want to split up the Merchant-Lord's protection, and they can't close the secret door from the other side, they let the PCs go... as long as they find their own way through the catacombs, reasoning that they can serve as decoys. The PCs will have to fight off cultist ambushes and whatever foul creatures (haven't decided on the nature of these yet) have taken up residence in the catacombs (as the lazy city guard hasn't patrolled them in years.) And then, plot happens.... |
| #10master-of-puppetsMay 30, 2008 15:24:14 | some fey thing, with fey-pacted warlocks and fey-elfes everywere I cant resist with a lot of deceifull scenes, like using ilusory terrain for a great feast in the forest to make it look like a castle dark elven like dark court fae (rather than drow) (maybe forest elven?) light elven/eladrin like noble court yeah, a civilication vs forest... arrrr need druids and barbarians NOW!!! ok, so while I wait for PHB2... Ill take some dark court plot for sure |
| #11MortonStromgalJun 06, 2008 9:57:40 | Stolen from a warhammer short story... The PCs are bound for city X and are taking a carriage there. The coachmen are really working for a local vampire and rather than going to the city they turn off the path and take the PC to the vampire lair. In the story the PCs just don't realize they are going in the wrong direction until they come to a deserted town and then about the time they start asking questions the coachmen run off and ghouls start pouring out of the run down homes. They hold up in a temple and try to fight off the hoard of ghouls and the vampire. There is also a witchhunter with a "injured" horse (most likely a lie) they pick up along the road who is suspicious of the coachmen but its too late. A witchhunter is kind of a rogue/paladin who fights to rid the world of evil in a rogue way, including abandoning the poor PCs after the vampire is dead. |
| #12BarmpJun 07, 2008 9:52:30 | I've been working on a deep, thick jungle full of nasties to hold a number of Heroic adventures in. Mayan temples, a stairwell to a crystal tower only revealed in the shadow of a mountain, dinosaurs and a 4,000 ft high waterfall into the unknown. First adventure should be the crystal tower, but I may have them explore an abandoned temple city first on a quick excursion and come back for the tower later. |
| #13fottaJun 09, 2008 0:48:56 | And then, plot happens.... Do you NaNo, by any chance? |
| #14jobies201Jun 10, 2008 11:24:57 | I run a bunch of different campaigns. (Well, technically I'm speaking in the future). Saturdays: H1 through E3 campaign. (When it comes out) Wednesdays: The next Adventure Path that they're starting in Dungeon. And then for Fridays I'm going to be making a homebrew campaign. What I'm thinking of doing is starting it as just a .... what did the DMG call it... "Dungeon of the Week" kind of thing. And then at like 8th-10th level have the characters realize there's one big baddie setting all these different forts and what not up in order to gain an army spread out throughout the world. He'll be a devil worshipper of course and the rest of the campaign will have the PCs traveling to different villages and forts where he has spread his influence to destroy his forces, and maybe some magical artifacts that gives him more power, and then finally end it with a big fight in the guy's castle. That's just a basic idea though. I really like the different combat ideas the DMG gives and I'm going to try and make all the big fights have some kind of weird thing, instead of just a strong guy. Like maybe on horseback, an ariel fight, etc . |
| #15alexeduardoJun 10, 2008 21:07:00 | Well, next time I DM i may... |
| #16the_ubbergeekJun 10, 2008 21:39:53 | 7 samurai scenario + raid on a brigands's lair could be nice as a start... Thinkering of a classic scenario. |
| #17ramses_iiiJun 11, 2008 18:06:44 | PCs escort a noble ally through the local "haunted forest" back to his castle; encounter goblins and fey in the woods. The fey turn out to be part of a faction that is involved in several PCs' backgrounds and have set up shop in a ruined fortress in the forest, with goblins as guards. There will also be an unrelated encounter with "lizardmen" (re-imagined kobolds) on a decrepit stone bridge -- lots of ranged attacks and minions; I'm hoping for a running battle as the PCs try to fight their way across. |
| #18monkey_blokeJun 11, 2008 18:27:59 | I've been working on a deep, thick jungle full of nasties to hold a number of Heroic adventures in. Mayan temples, a stairwell to a crystal tower only revealed in the shadow of a mountain, dinosaurs and a 4,000 ft high waterfall into the unknown. Take away the crystal tower and this is very similar to what I intend to run. Mine will be full of demon worship, blood sacrifice and snake cults. I am embracing a different sort of setting than I normally use since I feel I have done the medieval-Europe style setting a bit too much. |
| #19fledJun 11, 2008 18:31:25 | Party just finished a 2 year manditory stint in the royal guard and are back home in their small town and get bored. Sky's the limit from there. |
| #20Kensan_OniJun 11, 2008 20:58:52 | Apparently we are starting In Media Res with the breaking into a sealed tomb. Whoo! |
| #21copproJun 11, 2008 22:12:19 | I assume the fact that I'm running KotS doesn't count :P My second adventure is going to be a raid on some black dragon caves. Lizardfolk, troglodytes, and maybe the occaisonal dragonborn will be the primary enemies encountered. I don't know about all the details yet, but I plan on adding a twist or two. |
