First Attempt at a Homebrew Race - Advice?

I haven't gotten to the fluff yet, but it's the crunch that gives me the most trouble. As you can probably guess, this race is for the Eberron setting and is based of the concept of Dragonborn being blessed (or crossed) with Couatls. A dragonborn version of the Shussalkar, if you will.

Sybrill

Ability Score: +2 Dex, +2 Int
Size: Medium
Speed: 6
Vision: Normal

Languages: Common, Draconic
Skill Bonuses: +2 Arcana, +2 Religion
Inner Flame: You gain a + 1 racial bonus to your Will defense.
Stand against the Darkness: You have resistance to necrotic damage and fire damage equal to 5 + one half your level.
Piercing Retribution: You gain proficiency with the longbow.
Warrior's Grace: You gain a bonus to athletics and acrobatics equal to either your DEX or INT modifier (whichever is higher) upon becoming bloodied.
Spirit of The Couatl: You have the Spirit of the Couatl racial power.

Spirit of the Couatl

With an otherworldy roar your weapons are engulfed in silvery flames and intangible feathered wings sprout from your back.
Encounter
Minor Action Personal
Effect: All damage dealt by the next power you use before the end of your turn is Radiant damage. The power gains the Radiant keyword and loses its other damage type keywords. In addition, this power has a +1 chance to hit.

EDIT 3: Adjusted yet again

Any thoughts or suggestions?

Ability Score: +2 Dex, +2 Int

Typically, races that get two ability score boosts that go towards the same defense (Ex. Eladrin DEX/INT, Goliath STR/CON) get a +1 racial bonus to another defense (Ex. Eladrin +1 Will, Goliath +1 Will).

Inner Flame: As a minor action you can conjure a multicolored aura that sheds dim light to a radius of 10 squares. This aura is centered on you and can be dismissed as a minor action.

Sounds like it should be formatted as a racial power, but whatever...

Spirit of the Couatl

With an otherworldy roar your weapons are engulfed in silver flames and intangible argent wings sprout from your back.
Encounter
Minor Action Personal
Effect: Until the end of the encounter your attacks will deal + 1 radiant damage and you gain + 1 to acrobatics and athletics.

So it's an encounter power that lasts all encounter? I wouldn't automatically always use this on the first turn of a combat because...? Shifters pull this off because they must be bloodied in order to use their racial power. Really, you might as well just give the race a +1 racial bonus to acrobatics and athletics and just say that they deal +1 radiant damage with all of their attacks. Of course, this is pretty plain and doesn't scale very well (should probably make it like +2 radiant damage at 11th level and +3 radiant damage at 21st level), but I digress.
I'd honestly just try coming up with a different racial power, or if you really want to, modify this one so that you aren't effectively giving them these bonuses all the time. Just as a possible alternative idea, maybe the Effect line could read as follows:
Effect: Select one of the following benefits:
- Your next attack this turn that hits and deals damage also deals +1D6 radiant damage. This extra damage increases to +2D6 radiant damage at 11th level and to +3D6 radiant damage at 21st level.
- You gain your INT or DEX modifier as a bonus on the next Acrobatics or Athletics check you make before the end of your turn.

I've adjusted it, any thoughts?

Remember, this IS my first attempt at homebrewing. ^_^;

Your next three attacks that hit and deal damage will deal + 1 radiant damage. In addition, any damage you deal in your next three turns will be treated as if it were inflicted with silver.

personally, I don't like this: the +1 damage will hugely increase when fighting monster with radiant vulnerability (undead for example).

also, I don't think types of metal are important anymore ...

Stand against the Darkness: You have resistance to necrotic damage and fire damage equal to 5 + one half your level.

Isn't this just twice as good as what Tieflings get?
That might be a bit too much...

Also a +1 fixed bonus to athletics/acrobatics while Bloodied doesn't sound very useful.
Since it's called Warrior's Grace you might want to make it Cha maybe? Or Int if that fits the fluff better.
Would also make it scale better.

As for the Radiant... you could probably drop the bonus damage and just convert the current attack to a Radiant one. That makes it pretty damn good on Undead, and to convert an attack on the fly if the target is resistant to fire and you only have a Fire Daily left, for example.
(Even then it might be pretty tough)

All the more reason to be particularly harsh.

I think it comes up like twice in the MM. I know Lycanthropes lose their regeneration if damaged by silver. Either way, I agree that it's ridiculously niche and should probably be removed.

I have to agree with this. Let me go back and quote the updated racial power for a second...
Spirit of the Couatl

With an otherworldy roar your weapons are engulfed in silver flames and intangible argent wings sprout from your back.
Encounter
Minor Action Personal
Effect: Your next three attacks that hit and deal damage will deal + 1 radiant damage. In addition, any damage you deal in your next three turns will be treated as if it were inflicted with silver.

First question: What next three attacks? The next three attacks before the end of your turn? Before the end of your next turn? Before the end of the encounter? Before the end of the day? Because right now, it's forever and ever, meaning I can use this racial power all day and then get +1000 radiant damage to my next three hits...
But going back to what Qube said, this just looks like you're specifically trying to abuse radiant vulnerability. Make it more radiant damage (+1D6? +INT modifier? +3?) for one attack (probably your next one before the end of this turn, next turn, or the end of the encounter) and it'll be fine.

Isn't this just twice as good as what Tieflings get?

Yeah, but it's also exactly as good as what the Deva gets.

Also a +1 fixed bonus to athletics/acrobatics while Bloodied doesn't sound very useful.

You're right, but I haven't seen before anybody give their race a skill bonus while bloodied. It's usually an attack or damage bonus of some kind. It's actually a bit original, so I'd like to keep it, but I agree that the bonus should be larger.
Since it's called Warrior's Grace you might want to make it Cha maybe? Or Int if that fits the fluff better.
Would also make it scale better.

I think that's a great idea. The bonus is equal to their DEX or INT modifier, so you end up with:
Warrior's Grace: When you are bloodied, you gain a bonus to Acrobatics and Athletics checks equal to either your DEX or INT modifier.

This is another possible good idea. The Effect line of the racial power thus ends up as:
Effect: All damage dealt by the next power you use before the end of your turn is Radiant damage. The power gains the Radiant keyword and loses its other damage type keywords.

Actually, I was going more for a fluff angle with this, and wasn't trying to abuse anything. What better way to say you're partially celestial than having your weapons deal radiant damage for a short time? But I see your point. I'll fix it like you guys have suggested.

I've adjusted it again with the edits you suggested.

I think this looks great.

EDIT: Though actually, I might just do one other little thing. That racial power isn't actually going to be mechanically useful in every encounter, so what if you add another, minor bonus to it? Some amount of temporary HP or a +1 bonus to hit with the power, something small like that, something that wouldn't affect balance too much at all. It's up to you, though. The race is balanced as it is now.

Looks good to me. That way, using the power can still be of benefit in an encounter where no opponents have radiant vulnerability.

Or resistance to anything; because you can also use it to bypass resistance by converting an attack to another energy type ;)

But agreed; it looks good now...

Also, I didn't know about the Deva, but thanks for the pointer CC

Well, I'm starting to work on fluff now, so it'll take a little while.

Thanks for the help, guys!
