| #1grifta67Oct 21, 2011 1:33:03 | Hi everyone! I play at a weekly LFR night and will be running my first MyRealms adventure Monday (H2, levels 4-7). This is the first time I've ever created my own adventure! I've come up with a fun storyline and I think an interesting way to have that story unfold. What I'm not quite sure of is my combats. I want to do two harder combats as opposed to three fairly easy combats. Everything falls under the xp budget and doesn't break the LFR rules about too high of levels. Any time I DM I'm paranoid about killing PCs and I'm double-paranoid with this one since I'm the one picking the bad guys! I would love any feedback on the difficulty. The table I'll be running will be 7 players and the LFR mod only gives an xp budget up to 6, so I adjusted it up proportionatly to 5,950. The adventure will be at Average Level 6 and revolves around the Box of Seven Demons (modified a bit, from Mordenkainen's Emporium) Combat 1 - 2,152 xp 1x Barghest Battle Lord (lvl 6 skirmisher - MM2 - 750 xp) 3x Bugbear Strangler (lvl 6 lurker - MM1 - 750 xp) 3x Bugbear Wardancers (lvl 6 skirmisher - MM2 - 750 xp) 4x Bugbear Warriors (lvl 8 minion - MM1 - 352 xp) Combat 2 - 2,875 xp 3x Chosen of Yeenoghu (lvl 7 elite - MM3 - 1,800 xp) (is able to spawn Hyena Spirit minions each turn) 2x Fang of Yeenoghu (lvl 7 skirmisher leader - MM2 - 600 xp) 1x Crocotta (lvl 9 skirmisher - Dragon 364 - 400 xp) 1x Hyena Spirit (lvl 7 minion - MM3 - 75 xp) 1 Arctide Runespiral Demon (lvl 12) will show up in the second combat, but it'll only throw one ranged attack then escape. The remaning xp is for a skill challenge. Thanks so much for any advice you might have! -Sean |

Combat #2 for 7 players has an xp budget of just over a Level 9 encounter. . . . so that looks ok if the PCs are all level 6 or greater. If any are lower than that, you need to tone it down. The L12 monster *might* draw a lot of fire and make things even harder in the second encounter. That will depend how you present it, and how the players react. I'd personally have it show up late as possible to fulfill its plot purpose, to reduce the chance that PCs blow limited resources on it. Might review that, and try and get a few wasted shots if they come in to the second combat with 14 (whew!) Daily's unused . . . |
