A while ago, someone posted a campaign setting they had come up with in five minutes. I had meant to try it myself, but never got around to it. When I looked for it again, it was gone, so I am now resurrecting it. Here's the challenge:

You may use one image that inspires you (if you wish). If you do this, include it in your post.

Start a timer, and try to come up with as interesting a setting as possible in five minutes. Don't worry about it being perfect, or even very gameable. The idea is to get interesting ideas out, which can be refined later if necessary.

So, here's my attempt. Starting... Now!

IMAGE(http://i258.photobucket.com/albums/hh252/Mostly_Ghostly/RivenRebel980.jpg)

The setting will be in a swamp, a huge rolling expanse of marshland, filled with shallow, murky water, ancient twisted trees and precious little dry land. Because of the lack of dry land, most dwellings are either floating villages, or built on stilts, or else treehouse complexes. The most common building materials are mud and wood. Metal is very rare, so most weapons are made from bone or rock.

The Gods are dead. Their giant corpses litter the marshlands, and their immense bodies are home to many people. There is a city built inside the fossilized head of a one God. The rich live in towers on its crown, and the poor live in tiny dwellings carpeting the inside of its head, while those with slightly more money live near the eye sockets, which let in a modicum of light.

There are ruins of ancient civilizations, most half-sunken into the marshes.

There are no divine magic users, or any libraries, prohibiting wizards. Witches are the magicians of the time. Baba Yaga stalks the woods, in her chicken leg hut. Witch-oil burns in the darkness. Some say witches can have no children, and can only give birth to their houses, which start as tiny hand sizd dwellings and grow to be doll-house sized, and eventually into the witch's own house.

So. There it is. The start of something, anyways. Now - your turn!

The world use to be united under the banner of The Old Empire, not some evil empire, a regular one with as much of the bad and good things. During this time the culture and technology flourished; but for some reason the empire just disband, why? how? who knows?. There was no great war, no great cataclysm, most people just don’t care about whatever happen.
Cities are still there, people still live and they remember that there was once an Empire just a few generations ago; but they don't care.

The ones that care are rare and special; these people will try to reveal the secret of The Old Empire; to recover its ancient technology and magic. will they use this power for good or evil? That's a story yet to be told...

The land is dark, the forests overgrown and lost, home only to the forgotten horrors that destroyed civilization a thousand years ago. Magic items are all but nonexistant, but rumors abound of lost ruins containing crypts containing long lost treasures of incredible power.

Enter the village of Liveoak, home to perhaps two dozen humans. They are friendly with the nymphs and dryads of the nearby Silverwood, a forest that is kept safe thanks to the fey that reside there.

Under the home of the village elder is a secret cult. Members of the cult are magically dominated by their cult leader - not the elder but someone close to him. They don't worship dark deities; the cult leader is happy just to have magical servants.

Well that's all I could come up with in 5 minutes. More of an adventure hook than a campaign, but all campaigns start somewhere.

Quadripotamia

In the beginning the world was a garden, capped by a great lake out of which flowed the 4 great rivers. The children of the gods played in the garden for untold centuries, until they began to squabble over which of the children of the gods was the best. Their squabble turned to war and in turn, each of the children of the gods ruled over their brothers. Some ruled with good, others ruled with evil. The last to rule were the Humans.

After the rule of the humans came the dragons and their children. They lay waste to the land and even destroyed one of the rivers, but the gods in their mercy gave the children of the gods a new river and separated their land from the land of the dragons. After the dragons came, the land was no longer a garden, but the children of the gods had learned to stop their squabble and work together.

The Rose and the Land of Rust

A steampunk fantasy setting where every race is a steam powered automaton. Steam powered elves. Mechanical dwarves. Clockwork Gnomes. Etc...

The entire world was transformed long ago into a world where all living creatures, plants, animals, everything..was changed magically into their mechanical counterpart.

Most of the surviving folk of the world are gathered into one massive city ruled by the sorcerer responsible for the transformation whose name is Noxxe Elibom the Terrible.

The characters must delve into the under city in search of a means to reverse the transformation. They are inspired by a single living rose plant which seems to resist the curse of Noxxe and thrives despite the horrible conditions surrounding it.

no one ever can set foot into the wild lands, untold riches lie unclaimed just beyond the forest edge or over the nearest hill, but unfortuneately no one can reach them for the the wilderness has its own guardians, one who don not wish to let you leave, in fact, they take pleasure in watching you try..

these guardians are numberless kobolds and goblins and although they are weak, they have built traps all over the entire forest!! no one would dare set foot in the hills of the north for fear of falling into the spiked pit traps of the kobolds and none will dare the forests of the south because of the risk of being impaled by a spear dropping from a tree

the kobolds are not with out a sense of humor however and the traps at the edge of civilization are easy to over come, it is when you step into the mountains of Sherail to the far north that great boulders will come smashing through valleys hailing bolts of magical lightning and melting their paths into streams of lava....
