Flavour changes

Hey there. I considered putting this in "House Rules" but it doesn't change the mecanics, just the flavour (fluff vs crunch, I think is how it goes) and I wanted to see if anyone else had done similar things to change the assumptions in the D&D setting.

The first rule I have is about "Elves" in the setting. Elves, Eladrin and Drow are a single race in my world. Elves are born on the surface, Eladrin in the Feywild/at those places on the prime material which cross the Feywild, and Drow are born in the Underdark/Shadowfell (the Underdark being infested by the taint of the Shadowfell). [This does keep in with the three Gods for the Elven races, each the "parent" of one of the three posibilies.] Half-Elves are all the same because the Human blood either stabilises the Fey aspect, or taints it (depending on if you ask a Human or an Elf about it :P ). This does make the effect that even Half-Orcs are trusted more than an Eladrin (since they're "just Drow born in a different location") but that fits my setting perfectly.

My second regards Devas. They are not their own race which is continually reborn within their own species, affraid to turn into overgrown cats with inverted paws. Instead, they are reincarnated souls. Some of them actively remember their past lives, others might discover them over the course of their adventures, still more might get dreams/flashes of memories and some might just get "déja vu" from time to time. They can be of any race, but lack certain features. For example, it might be a Dragonborn who was inexplicably born without the ability to use a breath weapon (perhaps a reason to be thrown out of the tribe, or a sign that fullfuilled a prophacy, depending on the Player's interests). It might be a Human you doesn't feel any particular need to explore the whole world because she has a sense that she's seen it all. (And so on and so forth.)

Anyone else played with the fluff of their settings to get away from the assumptions of the Core Books?

*Looks at my settings* Oh gods it would take forever! Suffice it to say when I am setting up the game I just tell my players to look at the stats for races and classes since the fluff is entirely up in the air. I don't think I have ever run a game in a D&D world or in a traditional-fantasy kind of world. The closest would be Sigil, and even then I take my own twist on it.
