The campaign revolves around the players coming into possession of a house that was previously owned by a wizard. The house is situated right at a connecting point between both worlds. Along with some low noble title (baron or duke) and some surrounding hamlets and villages, the characters also have inherited some responsibilities. They are expected to control who moves between the two worlds and to take care of the hamlets and villages that pay tribute to them. I would like them to learn about their responsibilities first as barons in both worlds and second, and more importantly, as guardians of the gate between worlds (sort of an inter-planar toll booth, sort of much more). Here's my layout for the campaign so far: Heroic tier: learn about responsibilities. Their adventures will involve taking care of the hamlet and villages and also keeping baddies off pseudo-europe's turf. Serial killing monsters, smuggling, minor trouble with neighboring barons/dukes/lord/whatever, should be expected. Paragon Tier: Major trouble with neighboring barons/dukes/etc. Basically I would like some kind of war, but there are a lot of different nobles with feifs or what have you in the fantasy side, so it shouldn't be simply a two sided ordeal. Backstabbing, alliances, and a fair amount of exciting unpredictability should ensue. Ultimately the war will end with pseudo-europe becoming aware of this other world. I need help with how this will be accomplished. Epic tier: The characters have to deal with pseudo-europe's new knowledge that they are not alone and also an attempted all-out invasion of pseudo europe by some powerful force. I would like this powerful force to have been worked into the whole campaign in the background until this point. Right now I'm thinking Devils and Demons or Shadar-Kai. I really need help thinking of what kinds of adventures I can have in these different sections and even more help on how I can work this "super powerful force" into the background of the adventures up until the Epic Tier. Also feel free just to tell me what directions you would take this campaign. Thanks! |

Maybe, the basement is connected to the elemental chaos, and a door within the basement is connected to hallway that has a door for every level of the abyss. The addict is connected to the astral sea. A hidden compartment in the addict can lead to hell. One of the rooms is connected to the feywild. The room could be smack in the center of the house but have a window that separates the house from the feywild. The Shadowfell could be accessed by a hidden door within the house. The back door, or a back door, could be the link to this other world. With this the house is connected to everything, but the people that live in the low magic world will think it is all one place. They become even more paniced when they find out that the house is connected to hell, the shadowfell, and the abyss. After saying this I think all that you should think about is the heroic tier at the moment. They do not only have to manage traffic between worlds they also have to keep the connections from being destroyed, distorted, or permanently opened. The door to the shadowfell could be left open and undead start to walk throughout the house. Another thing is that the house could serve as a sort of upper end Inn for people that live in the high magic world, so this may mean that some business deals are done within the house. Some of the patrons could be up to no good so it is the PCs job to find these things out so that it doesn't hurt their business. |
