| #1neorevengeMar 26, 2009 22:20:35 | I saw a book from good man games for 4E wich included "4 new clasess" in a Post Apocaliptic setting Bard, Barbarian, Druid and Monk... Now i know that we have 3 of them thanks to PHB2 but im tempted to get this book just to play a monk, so my question is it really worth it?, anyone has checked it out?, what is diferent beetwen the classes described in this book and the ones in PHB2? |

One word for you: DON'T. It's pretty bad. I had to stop when I say an encounter power that gave the wizard a +2 bonus to all Cha-based skill checks until the end of the encounter. Also, the classes in FH are nothing like their WotC equivalent. That, however, was done by choice. There is a forward in the book that explains their design principle: make it different enough that both versions of the class can co-exist. For example, the barbarian is a martial defender, while the monk is a divine striker. It was a great attempt, but the authors even admitted that they started working on the book before the PH/DMG/MM was released. So, yeah, this book is a pass. However, I'm sure they've learned from this and their next one will be top-notch! TBP |

Even with the PHB2 around, I'd use it for the Monk and probably allow the defender variant of the Barbarian it offers up. The Druid and Bard in it I *might* allow alongside the PHB2 classes, or perhaps in place of them depending on which I felt best suited the game I had planned. |

It could easily be replicated by either an avenger or a ranger, depending on what you're looking for. Ranger with TWF and a pair of spiked gauntlets, and a high Int works well. With the high Int, MC wizard for your ki blasts. Or, instead of the gauntlets, a magical staff (implement) and the staff fighting feat. This allows you to use the implement as a double weapon, and an implement for your ki blasts (wiz powers). Otherwise, avenger is a good choice with a quarterstaff. It has ranged powers built right in the class, and is less MAD. The above mentioned ranger needs good Str, Int, and Wis. An avenger needs a good Wis, and either good Int or Dex. Either way, AC and Ref are going to be top-notch, as well as their Will. Get a 15 Str to qualify for power attack, and your Fort isn't going to be lacking, either. I actually did the math, and you're just as accurate with power attack and rolling twice as you are with a single roll and no power attack. Also, since the quarterstaff is a two-handed weapon, it's a +3 to the damage instead of +2! TBP |
