| #1weznFeb 17, 2009 17:41:21 | I've had in mind some sort of method of foreshadowing for new powers and feats gained at each level. The main idea is that there is some fluffy reason, like training (however short or inexpensive) or research, to explain new feats and powers. My idea is such that new encounter/daily powers could be used on a limited basis, or with weaker results, even before the new level is achieved, with something like the following limitations: 1. some percentage (say 70-90%) of the XP for next level is reached 2. characters have a really extended rest (say a full day off from adventuring) for research, practice, instruction, etc. 3. it fits the plot/setting, such as having a new item that the PC can experiment/practice with, an NPC to instruct the new move/spell/ritual, or a library for research. 4. it doesn't disrupt the flow of the game (such as being between sessions but without a full level-up). 5. DM gives the okay And basically, what would normally be an encounter power at next level could be used only daily, and a daily power could be used only once until the next level is fully reached. For non-power feats, the DM would have to rule on some partial effectiveness. |
