| #1grogdafighterOct 10, 2008 10:19:53 | I was thinking about running a campaign/world that would take my pc's from realworld people to dnd characters. They would be humans,(duh) and play like they were sucked through a time vortex and dumped in this dnd like world. From there they would choose their professions from special training from who ever they can get to teach them. Then once they have established what they want to do be,(fighter, mage, rouge, ect.) then the quest will commince. Before I can start all of this whole-some fun i need to come up with a way to make this char as close to them as possiable. Im thinking of comming up with a way to measure each persons STR, DEX, CON, INT, WIS, and CHAR. I know for STR i would do Push-ups and/or Pull-ups to measure what stat that would be. 10 push-ups/pull-ups would do a average str. 11. 15 push-ups/pull-ups would be 1 +1 multiplier. 20 would be +2 ect. Int. would be measured by what grade you passed. For Graduating high school you would get a +2 modifier. For graduating college you would get a +4 Any Special training or activities outside of work that you have gained knowledge from you would gain +’s to your skill points. (example. If you rock climb for fun or work, then you would get a + per the number of years you have been doing that. If you have been rock climbing for 3 years then you would get a +3 to your climb skill.) Everything else is a little fuzzy, I hope with your help we can come up with ways to "test" the other abilities. |

Shaundakul, who has been laying low since his disappearance from the 4E pantheon, sucked me and a couple buddies in to investigate why his status has been revoked. Our campaign's a little different in that some of us turned out to be different races in our FR guise and, though we don't know exactly what we're doing, we know how to do it (the cleric screams "DON'T DIE DON'T DIE DON'T DIE!" for Helaing Word, for example). I'm kind of intrigued by your idea to put your players through a sort of gauntlet to figure out their stats. I dunno what your group is like, but mine would be really diverse. Let's see what I can come up with... Str - I like to push-ups idea. I, personally, find pull-ups a lot harder and if you could do 15 of those I'd likely give you a better STR score. Dex - Take them to the arcade. Make them play DDR and something that tests hand-eye coordination, like Area 51 or another shooter. Con - If you're mean, long distance running. If you're awesome and everyone's old enough, drinking contest. Int - My only complaint about the school thing is you can be smart without going to school. A more accurate scale would be an IQ test. Just do one of the cheesy ones online. Maybe give them a bonus to knowledge roles if you still want education to be a factor. Wis - This one's tough. I'm drawing a blank. Cha - Also tough. I think asking other's opinions is the way to go. Perhaps a secret ballot between players and/or others who know your players where you ask them to rate the player's attractiveness and social skills. Maybe sneak photos of them onto that site that rates your attractiveness :p |

This way, everyone will end up with a fair array of scores, because you might have a player who is above average in all abilities and another who is below average. |
| #5SoyokazeOct 12, 2008 12:07:46 | I had an idea that was pretty bizarre. Have them all roll up as real world vikings, start them off in a battle, then have a black sea monster show up. They fight the creature, find it immune to almost all of their attacks, and find themselves teleported to another plain. In reality, they have been teleported to the year 1943. Nazi scientists have developed time travel and decided to travel back in time to collect pure Arian specimens to help win the war and purify the race. The black sea monster was a nazi U-boat. Obviously, the players realize that their captors are mad-men and turn on them. So, long story short, you have time traveling vikings killing Nazis. Your players stick to PHB accurate D&D characters while you throw modern era foes against them with grenades, machine guns, tanks, etc. Again, I'm aware that that's pretty "EXTREME!" It could be fun for one of my groups. They're all "kick in the door" types and history buffs. |
| #6Book5Oct 13, 2008 10:19:21 | Hold a Basket Ball out from themselves with arm straight (CON as a Measure of Time) 5 minutes per point. Awesome! Other than my standard answer (let the other players stat up the odd man) my thoughts, Str - There is a lift over head table people. Use it! Dex - Balance beam. Video games is not a very accurate test because it uses base attack bonus as well. Balance beams ... balance balls, hand stands. That kind of thing. Con - Gotta be a stamina test. The basketball thing is good, drinking contest is good as well - (as well as being very fun - I can imagine the character creation day - "don't worry about constitution, well get to that later, cheers!" ... now lets talk intelligence). Intelligence - I think the most straitforward one is languages. Education is too circumstantial. In this modern world remember to include programming languages. If someone knows parts of a language (for example - japanese curse words etc) then that's treated as half. I'd say something like HTML would be considered half as well. VB codes etc. LOL txt would count as a whole language because its so retardantly hard to comprehend. rofl-copter. Wisdom - Well now. Wisdom is primarily perception. So in our hypothetical character building session (remember everyones drinking and keeping track, you start with the intelligence conversation, then you move to the balancing tests before everyone gets too drunk) - You can play little perception games. This takes honesty, but for example - toss a ball around. Watch each others eyes as the ball flies. Do the recon ranger test and look behind you then turn back around and name as many things you can recall seeing as possible. Do a hearing and vision check - make successively quieter and quieter noises until you can figure out who can hear best. Charisma .... well ... what can I say ... this one is gotta be done on the level of charisma .... its not about appearence - its about presence of personality. Near the end of the night (when everyone is getting sloppy) just start an argument about it. The one that wins ... must have the most forceful personality. Simple enough. |
| #7matthewswiftOct 14, 2008 20:44:53 | eheh, I got a +6 strength if the pushups go in 10's :D I'm more for having everyone rate eachother and give averages. It'd be interesting to see what your buddies perceive (of course you also rate yourself for the average) |
| #8m-barkOct 17, 2008 3:16:51 | If you count knowing part of a language as half an Int bonus, then damn, I'm good. |
