It's probably been done, but I do not own any miniatures, and it is not exactly a priority on my to do list, but most of all i just want to talk about this and see what other people have done, and to get some feedbackand other opinions. But something intresting happened to me when i was playing with my brother last night. I usually operate with narrative combat, but my brother started to get creative. We were playing an Ebberron adventure, and he was fighting some ashbound elves in the eldeen reaches, when i told him it was his turn to make a move, he said that he wanted his character to move around him and try to attack an unsuspecting enemy and stab him in the back. I thought "wow that was pretty cool". Since then I had been thinking about getting creative with the whole narrative combat thing. Instead of having a rigid system, maybe some players and DM's could collaborate to make some interesting moves. Like instead of moving into range, you just tell the DM what your character is doing, and then the DM would create a sort of challenge in order for that move to be completed. For example, when my brother wanted to make that move like I mentioned above; when he wanted to move around the enemies and attack an unsuspecting enemy in combat, I had him do the following, in order to successfully pull off this maneuver: First i had him make a stealth check vs the enemy's perception, then if the enemy had noticed him, the attack would be the players attack vs the enemy's relfex defense. if the enemy had not noticed him, then the attack was automatically successful and he dealt critical damage...or something like that Anybody see what im getting at here. While keeping to the framework of combat, make it interesting by imcorporating other elements of the rules into combat to spice things up a bit. I mean nothing is set in stone is it? |
