| #1blinddmDec 06, 2011 5:11:17 | I'm currently reading me some Heroes of Shadow and Gloomwrought, both of which I really like, but I'm wanting to put a more modern bent on my game while still keeping specific fantasy themes and items. Like the use of swords, but I also want to use of guns. Now, I'm thinking of using the generic firearms from Gamma World and making gunpowder hard to come by or make. I was going to go about limiting the class selection, but I don't know if that's necessary or not. What do you think? I was thinking like "dark classes". Oh, and some neat clockwork would be cool, maybe taken from Eberron? Basically, I'm thinking Dark Victorian Fantasy, does that a) sound do-able and b) sound fun? Also, has anyone run a Horror type game and how did it go? What about a more modern game? Thanks for your input and advice! |

With the Firearms, I would make them just fall between one handed and two handed (rather than one handed light or heavy and two handed light or heavy like in Gamma World) so as to keep things simple. Use the heavy damage associations to keep them interesting, but don't give any of them the typcial Gamma World +4 proficiency bonus. +3 is enough with D&D's system. Also don't do anything special with ammo in heroic tier. Play around with how well your players take to the idea of using them before you start handing out magic ammo for them or anything like that. Use the Dark Sun innate enhancement bonus for them as well instead of giving out magic guns. Hope this helps. Happy Gaming ![]() |
