I have been working on how to pull off golem owning and mecha in 4th Edition now. The primary issues I see with this mission is that the reason WotC took out things like Golems, Ownable Undead, and Animal Companiona is because they allow players to have extra actions.

Golems, however, cost a great deal of money, so would that help offset this benefit of extra actions, for the most part?

My other idea is to make it similar to the shield guardian in 3rd Ed where the golem is linked to the necklace item slot with a cost equal to the golems level +2 as far as the pricing for the magic item goes (thus a level 8 golem would cost as much as a level 10 magic item). In addition to this, using the golem would require the sacrifice of a move action or standard action to command for a round. I am still leery that the golem idea maybe too attractive an item for players though.

As far as the suits go, I was thinking of pricing them in a similar matter to golems, based off the level. Otherwise it would work like the D20 Future book did it, requiring feats, but enhancing the pilots Strength (penalizing the Dexterity for the larger suits) and enhancing the size of weapons the pilot can utilize. Hit point damage is dealt to the suit until it loses half its hit points, at which point the pilot is exposed (granted superior cover) and maybe targeted instead of the suit. They wouldn't grant extra actions or anything. Does this seem balanced or is this still a bit too powerful?
