Well Im making a an adventure for the party and i wanted to know a couple of thing since im new to DMing. Do all the monsters in an encounter combine their challenge rating to make a EL? And if that EL equals the level of all the party members levels combied does that make it a fair fight? And whats a good level for a sorcerer boss that is challenging for a party of 4 LEVEL ONES? |

(properly played kobolds are very upper level) Try a whole bunch of level ones, some 3rd level officers and a 5th level boss. if it is to easy you can have some more minions come in the door, or if its too hard have a boss or enemy caster kill a few of his minions while targeting a pc. This lets you adjust the difficulty level on the fly without dropping the reality value. |
