hi all, i am a big fan of magic not the D&D kind, i am refering to stage magic such as slight of hand, fire magic, also being inspired by movies such as Magicians and the illusionist aswell as practicing it myself for only a couple of years now. i was thinking how would it be possible to convert something like this into a classed based on learning tricks the same as a wizard or sorcerer would learn spells, its all good being a Bard or a Rogue and making the relevent DC throw, but for someone like myself who would like to be able to use what he has learned it would be pretty cool. tricks for all intense and purposes would be spells i would assume it saves time trying to say "a magician doesn't have a spell level, he has a trick level". how i would imagine this class being something very similar to the bard class but the spell list and class features would be very diffrent, for example. The Magician Class would have the bard HD skill list but recive the rogue skill points generation system. the Magician class would also recive the same armor and weapon proficancys and drawbacks as the bard. This new class would then loose such benifits such as... Bardic Knowledge. inspire competance. counter song. yet keep other things such as... Fascinate, sujjestion, the Magician class would also gain Enthrall (level per day) aswell as silent spell as a class feat at the relevent level. at level 5 the Magician recives a class Ability called Duel Casting. this will be explained in a moement. now magicians are usualy renown for only doing one trick at a time. aka levitating card or pyrokensis. (pyrokensis amung magicians is the trick where you have a flaming ball in your hand and you put it in your pocket, in your sleeve, under your hat and then produce it from another location). now take the two tricks i have given you there for a moement, levitating card and pyrokensis. with these two tricks in mind think about them for a moement, then combine them, you hold out a pack of cards to someone in the audiance and say "pick a card and place it back in the pack" and so the audiance member happily obliges then after shuffling the pack of cards you then use "levitating card" to bring out the wrong card and say "is this your card?" the audiance member will say no. then using Pyrokensis while still using Levitating card. the card currently levitating will burst into flames and reveal the correct card. i know some of these tricks / spells may seem pretty useless but remember some things may still be usefull for example, modern day illusionists use specialy made items which would make sense in D&D to do the same but it takes the fun out of it, however if you think about what a magician / illusionist which ever you prefer to call it is not so diffrent from D&D spells, shrink item, enlarge item, invisability. there are a few spells from the normal spell list which could be intergrated into the new spell list but sadly i am not able to do this by myself thus i have sought the help of good folk on the WOTC forums. i hope someone can help me and correct what mistakes i have made.
