Has anyone d/led Hero Lab for 4e by Lone Wolf Development?

It's a character builder with plenty of editor features.  Create your own race, class, feats, etc.
I'm no programmer, so I'm having a little trouble with creating new feats.

If I can get it to work, wow, this could be awesome for 4e tools once they shut down these tools.

Is this a site or a book or something like what?

Hero Lab is a third party computer program for designing characters. It can work for a surprisingly large number of systems. (I used it for Mutants & Masterminds Second Edition.)

That being said, it is very expensive. It costs enough that I'd say it isn't worth the money unless you stat up a lot (and I mean a LOT) of characters.

Each system will put you back about the same money as a brand new, hard cover supplement. $30~$40, I mean. That's not counting how some systems require further purchases for more content (such as M&M 2e requiring a second purchase to use one of its supplements.) Oh, and purchasing the program to create characters? It doesn't explain the rules of the system, only character generation. You still have to purchase the rulebook for the game... So the only thing you get out of it is an overpriced way to quickly generate characters.

Now, the inferface is intuitive and you could turn out a LOT of characters in just one night, without having to dig through rulebooks. So there's still a reason to buy it, if you can afford it. I just don't recommend it unless you need to generate characters frequently.

If you're a DM that wants to stat up a lot of NPCs in every campaign, then it might be worth the money.
