| #1blinddmDec 05, 2011 7:42:22 | Hi! I'm new to 4ed, but I'm an old hat gaming as a whole. I just had a couple of in regard to Gamma World equipment and Origins. I want to do a more modern type game and was wondering if some of the weapons were balanced enough to be used in 4th edition without to much complication. I also wanted to know if someone had converted the Origins into racial templates. Thanks in advance for any help you can give! |

Generally speaking, anything that runs out is not a major threat if the players can't replenish it. If you find it's too powerful; stop giving them ammo for it. I don't know the specifics though, so you might want to wait for a response from someone with more Gamma World experience. About converting the templates; I don't think it's done yet. There was a post about it a few days ago: community.wizards.com/go/thread/view/758... But nothing really came from it yet. |

The ammo in gamma world for any of the special non-generic weapons is just a saving throw. If it passes you have more charges. If not, the battery died. Your normal guns in gamma world do not have ammo, they work just like 4e bows as many arrows as needed. The normal guns are one blank template and you choose what sort of gun you want it to be. Special weapons you could easily port to 4e, as they run out after 2 or 3 uses. |

I ran Gamma World 4E once If you're talking about generic weapons, while ammunition is generally not tracked, gun use is very limited: either you use it 1/encounter (an abstract representation of preserving the sparse ammunition you get in-game) or you use it throughout the encounter, as at the end of the encounter you deplete 1 ammunition pack (I forgot the term, and I'm not in the mood to check :p ) even if you shot only twice, and ammunition packs don't come by easily in the game.Generic equipment have no specific names tied to them -- a crowbar would likely hit as painfully as a bicycle handlebar -- so feel free to refluff as needed ![]() [ I'm thinking that, for a game that doesn't really have any intent to maintain "balance" in the 4E sense, it's surprisingly well done :D ] If you're talking about the card-based weaponry though, as Krusk mentioned they're typically save-or-lose weapon thingees (representing the faulty and broken-down-ness of the technology) that are typically 1/encounter or 1/day. |

No, the Gamma World aproach to weapons - guns running out of ammo if you fire them a second time in an encounter, crazy omega tech that randomly 'loses charge' - doesn't lend itself well to a 'modern' setting. The Gamma World aproach to healing (one big fat 2nd wind/encounter - no surges or other daily resources at all) OTOH, might be a place to start. |

I also wanted to know if someone had converted the Origins into racial templates. Nope (especially since those origins effectively replace D&D's 'class'). Probably better to just generate PC's using either one ruleset or the other. fwiw: I had one of my player's PCs bounce between settings... but thanks to flux he could look like practically anything in either setting. Here is the forum for Gamma World discussions, if desired. |
